Texas has warmest summer on record of any state

The blistering heat experienced by the nation during August, as well as the June through August months, marks the second warmest summer on record according to scientists at NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) in Asheville, N.C. The persistent heat, combined with below-average precipitation across the southern U.S. during August and the three summer months, continued a record-breaking drought across the region.

The average U.S. temperature in August was 75.7 degrees F, which is 3.0 degrees above the long-term (1901-2000) average, while the summertime temperature was 74.5 degrees F, which is 2.4 degrees above average. The warmest August on record for the contiguous United States was 75.8 degrees F in 1983, while its warmest summer on record at 74.6 degrees F occurred in 1936. Precipitation across the nation during August averaged 2.31 inches, 0.29 inches below the long-term average. The nationwide summer precipitation was 1.0 inch below average.

This monthly analysis, based on records dating back to 1895, is part of the suite of climate services NOAA provides.

Excessive heat in six states – Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana – resulted in their warmest August on record. This year ranked in the top ten warmest August for five other states: Florida (3rd), Georgia (4th), Utah (5th), Wyoming (8th), and South Carolina (9th).The Southwest and South also had their warmest August on record

YEP. My grandparents lived in Venice CA, when we were kids it was hot enough that “they” were warning not to let kids go out side and play. I live in Santa Barbara now, it was a cool summer this year.

Survived the heat wave of 1980 working outdoors, and survived the heat wave of 2011 working outdoors.
You deal with what you get. If you live in Texas, you know to expect heat. If you don’t, you are one of the multitude of recent transplants who come here, see the can do attitude of the people, say “Man, They got it going on down here!”, and then revert to standard whining when it isn’t Kalifornia pretty.
NOAA is a valuable site, but the .gov is inherently tainted as of late.
As an erstwhile meteorologist I would vigorously stress that which is unsaid in our headline driven media world. WEATHER is nothing but a series of extremes!
There is no such creature as NORMAL weather, NORMAL temperature, NORMAL rainfall. Only averages.
The rain will return, and when it does, it will probably be too much, too soon. That’s the way it is. We will deal with it.

It isn't a machine...HAARP is used to change weather patterns...today, it is much more advanced. Back in the early 80's the south had an unusual drought and heat. An American Scientist knew the Russians were causing this with some type of signals. He worked until he could block what they were doing. And puff the drought stopped. This one scientist became ill and had to go into the hospital...immediately the heat and the drought started all over again.

It has been obvious to me what this creep living in our WH has ordered this to be done to Texas...

Fine by me, too. We used the floor fan yesterday for I think the second or third time all summer. Didn’t use it today.

Our last week of August here in mid Tennessee was 15-20 degrees above average.

Then tropical storm Lee brought three days of rain and very cool temps. Now were are 15-20 degrees below normal.

It hasn’t hit 70 in five days.

“The summer has been amazingly cool here in San Jose.”

Sacramento weather has been fantastic for the third straight year.

We’ve relished temps in the mid to high 80’s here for 4 days now. Lot’s of smiling faces. Upper 90’s to triple figures next week. Fall starts in October down these ways.
Rain is welcome when it arrives.

It hasn’t rained in Seattle all week, and the temps are in the 80s. I think we have finally hit SUMMER!

This summer was atypically cool here in the front range of the Rockies.

We beat the all-time record for latest date to hit 80 degrees this summer in Eastern Washington by almost a week.

We had a very warm July here in No. VA, but August was very cool. There were tons of reports about the heat, but nothing about the temps in August. It feels like October here now after all the rains.

Nothing the NOAA says can be taken at face value.

They’ve fudged their data before.

So, it happened before, and is there a record date before that one?

I guess there are some who miss that mile thick icecap over most of the continent.

NOAA has been fudging temperature data for a while now. There are far more thermometers recording temperature data than are used for calculating these so-called "average" temperatures. The data they get is solely dependent on which thermometers they select. Don't believe any summaries they publish until they make ALL of the actual temperature data available.

Have you ever seen the "Texas thermometer"? Where is it? Have you ever seen the "US Thermometer"? Where is it? Of course, there isn't any. The data are all calculated, from data that is not made available to you and me.

I know, I know. The old joke, during the automobile hay day, was that if you needed to give the US an enema, you would place the tube in Akron, Ohio. I suppose you could put the thermometer there, too.

Not only is it a shame that many had to suffer through this heat, it's a even bigger shame that the gullible will be more likely to listen to madman Al “millions of degrees” Gore and his horrific AGW nightmare fantasy scam.

In CA, however, it has been one of the coolest summers ever. You don't hear about that do you? Also, what about Ireland and their coolest(almost cold)summer since 1850 and the fact their winter is predicted to be colder than last year.

Only report stuff that can be used to tout global warming(er..climate change)is the motto of the MSM.
