MIAMI-DADE COUNTY A woman was killed by her own SUV Thursday night after she left it in reverse in a central Miami-Dade parking garage and the vehicle slammed into her, according to Miami-Dade police.
About 6:20 p.m., the woman began to pull out of a parking space at Burger King's corporate headquarters, 5505 Blue Lagoon Dr., police said.
While backing out, she hit a vehicle next to hers. She stopped and got out of her BMW SUV to check the damage, police spokesman Detective Roy Rutland said.

SUV’s don’t kill people...unengaged shift levers kill people...
It’s good to carry some chocks to throw in its way. I never stand in front of the direction of travel. Better to pull the mirrors off. Leave the driver’s door open so you can jump in to steer or brake.
“Nope, its the killer automatic transmissions that are at fault. Ban em.”
After 40 years of driving stick shifts, I have a hard time driving an automatic.
Or you can try to pre-place some chocks/barrier.
Me too. Occasionally I'll hit the wider brake pedal while trying to push in the non-existant clutch pedal.
I used to push start my VW bug on level ground all by myself. Picking a parking spot with at least a slight downhill is still wired into my thinking.

Yeah, I had a bus; it was only a little harder to push.
Fixing a broken starter on a VW is actually optional when you’re young and poor. So is buying a new fanbelt, if you have access to an old pair of pantyhose. There are things I miss about those days...
Where do such dopes get the money to buy such fancy BMW SUV? From their boyfriend or husband
And don’t forget tires. Ran my VW tires down to the canvas a few times. Took only a pointed stone to get a flat, fuggedabout a nail.
The one thing I don't miss is screwing with the points and timing frequently.
Good thing the SUV didn’t have an assault rifle.
We need to outlaw SUV’s and only drive motor vehicles. That will keep us safe.
Ironically BMW is the one SUV brand that offers a real stick shift option. The BMW is a safe SUV, for people that stay on the inside anyway.
The King claims another victim!
Also useful for the disabled.

That, and taking off all that !@#$%^ shroud sheetmetal for plug changes and valve adjustment. If I remember correctly, it was damn near impossible to get plugs out and back through the wire hole.
It got to where I’d made a floor jack adapter to support the engine and I’d just pull the engine out of the bus for most everything. Four nuts, throttle, generator wire, fuel line... I think that was it. I could get my engine out in ten minutes; maybe fifteen or twenty to get ‘er back in and reconnected.
I had a VW bug back in the day. It wouldn’t start a lot of times because the points were corroded. My mechanic (wonderful Cuban man) told me to just use an emery board and file them and it worked every time. You could fix those cars forever.
