FRESNO, Calif. (AP) -- As many as two dozen football players from Fresno State University have been implicated in a welfare fraud investigation involving a county Department of Social Services worker accused of filing for false benefits for them and others.

It's the latest in a series of problems that have plagued the university's athletic department over the decades.

The social services eligibility specialist was arrested last month by an investigator with the Fresno County District Attorney's Office but has not been charged. University officials have declined to comment beyond a written statement, saying they don't want to impede the investigation.

Oh, it’s OK because other people besides members of the football team also received fraudulent benefits? What a scam, but it doesn’t surprise me.

Why pick on them? Obama's own mother perpetrated welfare fraud in Hawaii. As a wealthy graduate student she filed for food stamps. A cheezy trick often used by cynical students who because of full time studies were not making a big current income.

ROTFL! The food stamp program, among others, is so riddled with fraud that it’s unreal. No wonder those TEA Party “sons of bitches” are so PO’d.

We just overturned it but Jenny Granholm simply made all college students eligible for food stamps regardless of need.

About 2 weeks back we cut some 30,000 college students off food stamps. It will save something like $75 million per year.

Unfortunately it will put a damper on the beer and cigarette industry in your state.

Isn’t Fresno State the same place where the Student Body President is an illegal alien?

Fresno State sounds like it needs to be renamed to Corrupt U.

HUH?? Individual states can do that? I always assumed that the food stamp program was a federal needs based program and if, for instance, a student was a dependent that most wouldn’t even qualify. How did the governor justify that decision?

As I understand it, the money comes from the feds (taxpayers) but is administered by the states themselves.

Has to be a lie, someone told me that there was a law against such things and welfare and social security fraud never happens. Maybe they meant never happens in their mind.

Good. Since I am a taxpayer I will sue the hell out of them if it is expedient. God doesn’t play.

What? Is this some kind of end run around the alumni. Aren’t they providing lap dances and Escalades for the stars? What kind of football program are these guys running? Welfare doesn’t give vouchers for strip clubs and Belvedere vodka. I’ll bet those guys get suspended for the kickoff by the NCAA. Oh crap, there goes the National Championship for Fresno.

Well let’s get real here. The cafeterias aren’t always open for guys who have difficult practice schedules. They need the foodstamps for chillin food. They got the scholarships, free room, free books, tutors to do their homework, and “friends” cars to “borrow”.

Oh and the Pell Grants...but that’s for Tats, Bling, and Weed.
