ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.—Churches and religious groups opposing the governor's renewed push to repeal a law allowing illegal immigrants to get driver's licenses say their actions are part of a larger and growing advocacy effort aimed at promoting immigration reform on moral grounds. Organizations like the New Mexico Catholic Conference of Bishops and the Albuquerque Interfaith were among those in Santa Fe this week to protest Gov. Susana Martinez's efforts to rescind the state law. They argue the measure helps one of the state's most vulnerable populations.

For months, these coalitions of interfaith groups have called on their members to attend rallies in New Mexico's capital city

No one but no one has a right to a DL. The churches including my own Catholic church need to pick which hill to die on. This ain’t it. If someone said that illegal immigrants should not be allowed to have emergency humanitarian care I would oppose that. But a DL as a human right? Heck no.

She has a serious conflict of interest now that she has admitted to being the spawn of illegals.

Oh, cut me a break.

The derogatory 'wop' against Italian immigrants was an acronym of With Out Papers.

So are the children of those immigrants 'spawn of illegals'?

Or is that slur reserved for Hispanics from that era?

As some have noted, illegal immigration becomes a problem in a welfare state.

Not in the era of Martinez's grandparents.

moonshiner_09: These churches have become very misguided, they ignore key parts of the bible, these churches act more like they worship a false God, for the one they speak of here, does not condone, document fraud, lying, stealing, cheating, so on, etc, etc, etc.

presently no screen name: God’s Word clearly states to obey the laws of the land and these illegals have not. These liberal churches ignore that - so they can take their ‘moral grounds’ somewhere else - they want to reward disobedience to God’s Word and to the law of the land. They have no firm ground to stand on.

***

I was pretty sure before this thread that the Bible’s commands to welcome and be kind to visitors and strangers in your land applied to the illegal aliens, and that BOTH:

1) the USA’s laws
2) the illegal aliens themselves

... were wrong.

Now I’m not so sure about #2, since we have so many laws that contradict in that:

1) they are illegal
2) they can go to our schools, get benefits, ...

Well said.

BTW, I love the organization entitled "The New Mexico Catholic Conference Of Bishops" which, as of Monday, will consist of exactly 2 people.

I'm not really in contact with much of anyone there anymore. It has been nearly 20 years. The people I was close to all left as well.

Some of them joined other Lutheran denominations. Others joined various denominations-- Catholics, Mormons, you name it. To a person, all of them are happier since they left.

I've church hopped myself, mostly at the invitation of these friends, sometimes on my own. Anytime I hear some horse's arse rave about this or that brand being a cult, I figure the brand they are raving most loudly about is probably on the right track because I was in a corrupt libtard cult which spent a great deal of time raving about others being a cult.

I think I can recognize a cult better than any of them. The first sign that a church is turning into a cult is when they start substituting the libtard philosophies of man for the doctrines of Jesus Christ. Sort of like these "activists" are doing in New Mexico.

You want to help the people of Mexico? Fine. Go down there and build churches. Help villages dig wells. Send your missionaries to preach whatever brand of Christianity most inspires you. But don't expect your neighbors and fellow citizens to pick up the tab for those who sneaked in just so you can get your lawn mowed for cheap or fill your pews.

If you want to help those already here, help them get legalized and understand what it means to be an American. Or volunteer to tutor them in English. In other words, use your own time and money. Don't steal it from your fellow citizens. That's what these PC cult churches are doing.

Liberal wackos in action.

This is not “church” business; its way left politics.

Some of these church groups are getting taxpayer money to run their illegal alien schemes. Catholic Charities is one of the biggest assistants to illegals and they get lots of federal money. We have to get a hold of the federal purse and pull the purse strings tight, then when the money is cut off much of this mischief will come to an end. Isn’t it infuriating that our own money is going to those taking our country away from us.

She has a serious conflict of interest now that she has admitted to being the spawn of illegals.

So she has a problem because her paternal grandfather came across the river in the 1920's, before razor-wire fences, border patrol officers every hundred yards and half-mile long daily lines at border bridges, and then deserted the family?

Get real. Her family raised her right (an armed security guard at 17), a law school graduate who took on corruption in Las Cruces courts, and won election and reelection as a Republican DA in a Democratic stronghold.

So tell us what her conflict of interest is from events that occurred 90 years ago.

The Catholic Church is really not much different from all the rest of the “organized religions.” Sadly, they have devolved into “businesses” and the pander to those who will give them money or power (or both). While we’re at it, let’s give the Mormons a high five for having Harry Reid as a member.

The illegals are their congregants

This is the reason for separation from the get go.
