Mitt flier: Perry 'wants to kill Social Security' (being distributed in Florida)
Politico ^ | September 10, 2011 | ALEXANDER BURNS

Posted on 09/10/2011 1:47:27 PM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

The Tampa Tribune posts a flier that the Mitt Romney campaign is distributing in Florida, attacking Rick Perry as "reckless and wrong on social security."

The top of the flier has pictures of a smiling Romney and a surly-looking Perry, and reads: "Two candidates. Only one will protect what's important to you." Continue Reading

"Rick Perry believes social security is a 'failure,'" the flier says, quoting the Texas governor's book. "Rick Perry believes Social Security is unconstitutional ... Rick Perry does not believe Social Security should exist ... How can we trust anyone who wants to kill Social Security?"

Notably not mentioned in the flier: the term "Ponzi scheme," which Perry used to describe Social Security in his book and again in the POLITICO/NBC debate Wednesday. While some Perry critics have fixated on that language, the Romney campaign apparently believes it's not the worst of Perry's problems when it comes to the popular entitlement program.

Except for the photo of Romney, the flier is also almost exactly the kind of attack the Obama campaign could use against Perry in a general election.

Seriously. How do we know the Perry didn’t vote for Obama. He voted for Al Gore. He certainly didn’t vote for Ronald Reagan. Who did he vote for in 2008???? I am asking you specifically because you seem to know most about Perry.

I caught just the end of that segment.

They liked his plain talk about the death penalty.

They want more (detailed) of Perry.

Popcorn is popping.

Mitt is as slimy as they come. He can't be trusted. I don't believe that he would sign an Obamacare repeal either. I also don't believe he'd appoint conservative judges.

With a comment like that, how do we know you're not a troll? LOL

Isn’t he the guy who talked about how much he backed Reagan until the letter came out that he wrote about leaving the Republican party because of Reagan? That doesn’t sound particularly honest or un-hypocritical to me.

[Romney’s conduct could have implications for the general election spreading this kind of nonsense which is right out of the Dem playbook.]

Yep. Romney wants to be President so bad, he’s perfectly willing to damage other candidates to an extent that will carry over to the general election. Well, I have news for Mitt, I’m not voting for him, NOT EVER.

"I think this is good. It shows Perry's hurting Romney."

No way is it good.....not one bit....not in Florida. Mitt's slime tactic will work beautifully with the blue hairs and the geezers which is why Romney got this smear out on the streets as fast as he could get his limo over to a Jiffy Printers.

We educated freepers know the ins and outs of primary dirty tricks. But who's doing what to whom means doodley-squat to the retired Condo Commandos when it's Social Security that's on the table in Florida.

A Social Security check every month is holier to them than the Shroud of Turin.

The seniors in their huge voting bloc will read Romney's crap and buy it like a 5:00 P.M. early bird dinner special at Red Lobster.

That focus group appreciated that Perry spoke the truth.

They went on to say that while they may agree with Perry on SS his having made such statements in a campaign for president was not wise and will likely be the focus of attack for Obama, the DNC and other liberals. They were right as it's happened already.

Apparently, Ron Paul ran an ad that attacked Perry for being a Gore supporter in 1988 and said that Paul stood with Reagan. The Perry campaign released a copy of a letter Ron Paul wrote in 1987 saying he was leaving the Republican party because of Reagan’s policies. http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/The-Vote/2011/0907/Ron-Paul-versus-Rick-Perry-Who-is-Ronald-Reagan-s-true-heir

That incident doesn’t strike me as being honest on Paul’s part. I have not paid a lot of attention to Paul, is he usually that honest about things?
