Dear TX Freepers,

Son is entering Navy in December. Has been training in Austin with fellow recruits. Needs to find room to rent in Austin to avoid drive (expense of driving 60+ miles too much). Any contacts we could present him to would be most apprciated.

The young man doesn't smoke, drink or chase women (and yes, he's normal). He's in superb condition, but wants to max out to be ready. Please freepmail me if you can help us find some contacts.

TOPICS: Miscellaneous; US: Texas
KEYWORDS: austin; chet; navy; roomtorent; training; vanity
Freepmail phone number or request mine and thanks.

If he’s in decent shape, really over the top to move to another city to train for navy bootcamp. Also, it is hard to imagine that the expenses of a second residence would be much less than the expenses of a 60 mile commute. Advise your son, just to hit the local gym, keep up a regular running routine and he’ll do fine. Save the money for those liberty ports.

lol!

I wish I could help you but I can't. I can offer my thanks for raising such a fine, patriotic young man who wants to serve his country.

Good luck in your search and may God protect your boy.

Thanks. Yes he is a fine young man. He knows what he’s facing and he’s ready to do it. Gotta be somebody out there who could help him achieve his training goals (especially swimming — he’s got everything else beat). Needs to swim more.... He’s a hard-working, Godly young man. Doesn’t cause problems for other people.

Contact some of the churches in Austin. I know some of them used to recommend Christian room housing for UT Students.

Also: http://www.facebook.com/christianstudentsoncampus

You might check out their FB page an enquire about rooming when a Christian student.

We’ve tried to make contact through our church, but it isn’t working so far....too far way and people don’t know us.

I’m sure your son appreciates your efforts. But even though I do not know him, I can almost guarantee that as a young man, he would rather take care of this by himself. Let him. :)

Agreed, they just started this because kids coming out of high school couldn’t pass the fitness tests at the start of boot.

If he is in shape, talking to the recruiter should get him out of that.

It is crazy to have someone drive 60 miles from to get some exercise.

I was in Orlando in July/August, back in the day.

I dunno how much things have changed over the years but I know when I went to boot camp I could barely stay afloat, and even though I struggled, I made it through the swimming part.

If your son hasn’t already asked his recruiter, he should ask EXACTLY what kind of things he will be tested on, especially in the pool. The only part I had trouble with was staying afloat, in the way they wanted. Inflating dungarees and doing a lap wasn’t hard at all.

Thank him for his service and I wish him Fair Wind and Following Seas. :)

I’m not sure why he would need to move... or even really train for boot camp; it’s not that hard and from what you’ve said it sounds like he’s already able to meet the standards. Is he aiming for BUDS?
