THE Archbishop of Canterbury will resign next year, almost a decade before he is due to step down, British media report.

Dr Rowan Williams, 61, has been the head of the Church of England for about 10 years and although he is eligible to remain in the position until the age of 70, he is considering quitting, according to sources.

Friends of the archbishop say that having overseen a period of turbulence in the church, he is considering a life of academia, British newspaper The Sunday Telegraph reports.

I hope it's true. This man has me on the verge of leaving the Church I was raised in. Not just because of him, and his leaving won't stop me, but I would like to be able to see the Church of England as a Church again. And I know many Anglicans who feel the same way.

Sadly, the problem is thru out the entire Church. It’s been taken over by the gays and liberals....almost completely.

Good. I am not an Anglican, but my blood boils when I read some of this man’s pronouncements. They need someone who will actually defend the faith, vs someone who is a Dhimmi & Christian apologist.

Because of its apostate leanings, I left the Anglican(Episcopal) Church years ago. There is an orthodox group, The American Anglican Council, which is comprised of believing Anglicans who were appalled at the heretical stance of the denomination but their church meetings are primarily in the South. I tried to find an orthodox Episcopal church near me but the best I could do was find one with a minister who is listed on their affiliate page. I attended the church, but the congregation was a mixed bag most identifying themselves as Anglo Catholics. I suppose that is also a fairly conservative group, but I do not ascribe to their way of worship. The rest of the congregation claimed to be liberal. Despite the Archbishop’s resignation, things in the Anglican church are so bad, I am sure a female homosexual will take his place.

This appalls me. People are free to worship as they please, and if someone sits in the pew next to me and is a homosexual, I don't care, as long as they keep it to themselves. But to have it shoved into your consciousness, your church (of all places) and your face, displays what the homosexual agenda is all about, and it isn't about God.

Maybe this time, they can get a real Christian to fill the position. One that actually believes the Bible — all of it.

I would love to be able to go back to my church one day but it’s not looking good. Sadly, my home parish is very socially liberal and getting more so every year.

It won’t do any good for Rowan to leave if the ECUSA is still headed by Jefforts-Schori. She has only made things worse, IMO.

So you oppose efforts to reach out to people who need to hear the Word? I find that appalling.

No. What I find appalling is their effort to corrode the word of God and the church from within.

Homosexuality is immoral, unnatural and a sin.

Hopefully, the next archbishop of Canterbury will be a Christian at least.

You can hate the sin and love the sinner.

It would be Christian to find in in your heart to reach out to and forgive a murderer.

It would not be Christian to make murder acceptable in order to reach out to a murderer to help them find salvation.

Other end of the rhetorical spectrum, murder does not equal homosexuality, but the concept is the same.

You don't reach out to people who need to hear the Word by changing the Word so that it doesn't offend them.
