Scientists: Bacteria spreading in warming oceans

BRUSSELS (AP) — Warning: The warming of the world's oceans can cause serious illness and may cost millions of euros (dollars) in health care.

That is the alarm sounded in a paper released online Tuesday on the eve of a two-day conference in Brussels.

The 200-page paper is a synthesis of the findings of more than 100 projects funded by the European Union since 1998. It was produced by Project CLAMER, a collaboration of 17 European marine institutes.

The paper says the rising temperature of ocean water is causing a proliferation of the Vibrio genus of bacteria, which can cause food poisoning, serious gastroenteritis, septicemia and cholera.

"Millions of euros in health costs may result from human consumption of contaminated seafood, ingestion of waterborne pathogens, and, to a lesser degree, though direct occupational or recreational exposure to marine disease," says the paper. "Climatic conditions are playing an increasingly important role in the transmission of these diseases."

Wait, I thought I just read something about another La Nina heading our way. Isn’t that supposed to be the result of cooling oceans?

Oh noes.... we are all going to die!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Notice how all these stories are coming out before Al Gore’s big 24 hours of gorebull warming? They neglected to tell everyone that it will just be a one hour recording played over and over.

The only obvious solution is to build a giant slingshot to launch giant water balloons at the sun. That's the only way they'll stop the supposed warming of the oceans.

One of the first things you learn in statistics class is: Where do my data start? I keep hearing that the oceans have warmed by 1C, which is hardly enough to cause the "earth's delicate balance" to come apart. A much longer trend shows the oceans are cooler than the historical average. Now, it's notoriously difficult to measure the oceans' temperatures because there is no one temperature, but even so, if anyone thinks it's possible to measure the oceans' average temperature a hundred years ago, you're as crazy (but not as evil) as Al Gore.

We can look at a trend, but that too is confusing. The oceans have some very long cyclical trends, around 800 years, and we've only had modern measurement systems very recently. So, we're stuck with looking at a tiny data window and trying to paste it on horrendously long-term trends that we don't know. Certainly one 800-year trend isn't statistically enough either.

In short, anyone who talks about sea temperatures, ice melting, and especially sea level rises, is full of kelp. These numbers cannot be pinned down and ultimately are what anyone wants them to be.

Yes indeed! Cabbage Patch Gore is making a run at cheap publicity. I made it abundantly clear on my FaceBook page that anyone that has donated their page to Gore for the 24 hour period will be relegated to the wastebin of history - for being ignorant.

Warmer oceans? Has La Nina been cancelled? Good...we could use a little “climate change” here in Texas.

Ever seen a thermocline from below? Somehow I get the idea that the quacks have no idea what to do with is so they ignore it.

Vibrio is the cause of seafood born food poisoning or sickness from contaminated water. It is related to Cholera. It’s not new or special.
This is fear mongering.

Vibrio vulnificus outbreaks commonly occur in warm climates and small, generally lethal, outbreaks occur regularly. An outbreak occurred in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina [7] and several lethal cases occur most years in Florida.[8]

We would love to have warming oceans! It would make the weather in Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas so much wetter! Unfortunately, La Nina is BACK... And the Pacific is getting COLDER.
