Let's be clear--the only thing 'botched' in 'Project Gunwalker' was the cover-up
St. Louis Gun Rights Examiner ^ | 13 September, 2011 | Kurt Hofmann

National Gun Rights Examiner David Codrea pointed out early this month that every time the "Project Gunwalker" atrocity is described as a "botched gun sting," a lie is being disseminated. The lie is the notion that there was ever the intention of mounting any kind of "sting" to "botch." There was not. There could not have been. No effort was made to track the guns past the border (or, very often, even to the border). When field agents tried to track them any farther than a few blocks from the gun shops, they were ordered to stand down their surveillance. Nor is it the case that the plan was for Mexican authorities to be tipped about what was going on, so they could perform the surveillance.

As long-time BATFE whistleblower (and victim of BATFE retaliation) Vincent Cefalu puts it, "The only way to [track] the guns would be with crime scenes and dead bodies." And that's how exactly how they "tracked" them, and according to a "Gunwalker" report by Representative Darrell Issa (R-CA) and Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA), doing so made them "giddy":

Exactly correct. It is hard to characterize a plan that goes as expected (except for being discovered) as "botched".

Fast&Furious = Watergate X Irancontra.

I wonder how long the MSM will be able to help in the coverup?

Where are today's Woodwards and Bernsteins?

Operation Gunwalker gave the Resident an opportunity to claim that American guns were responsible for Cartels in Mexico being armed. That claim was to be followed by an attack on the 2nd. Amendment rights of Americans

He made the claim and is still making it, He doesn’t add that he set it up so it would happen in this way. It got botched when whistleblowers who were sickened by what they were seeing finally had enough.

Obama is directly responsible for the deaths which followed this debacle.

Holder is just his stooge. Working under the radar is the way Obama does business. If there is a more sneaky conniving , hateful, spiteful, SOB in Government, I don’t know who it could be.

Botched is deliberate wordsmithing meant to dismiss a mistake or calamity carried out by subordinates who "botched" what was otherwise a sound plan or policy.

The word botched needs to fade from the dialogue when discussing the operation. Nothing was botched or screwed up. It went perfectly according to obama's "under the radar" funny business on gun control.

I haven't followed this story at all, so I'm late coming into the discussion. My question is: was that "the whole deal": that Obama would use this as a pretext to suppress the 2nd Amendment? Or was there still more: getting the guns to criminals who were particular allies of his? Or making money shomehow through the transactions as the guns circulated in the networks?

What exactly was the whole intended gain for Obama?

I like the way this guy thinks. It's right in line with my thinking...
As I said on a couple of threads the other day, yours being one of them...

...they go out of their way to emphasize the "botched" nature of the operation which has been the administration line on this matter...

They're cutting their own throats with that angle and I say let them!
If there was an operation to be "botched" it had to have been approved beforehand so that it could be "botched".

Who approved the original plan and what were the original plans if they were "botched"?

Your question answers itself -- today's "Woodwards and Bernsteins" are the cover-up.

The intended gain for Obama is to take all guns from Americans.

Even the agents who are being lauded for bringing this absolutely illegal project only did so because agents were murdered. So all the citizens and Mexicans murdered (and the number may total in the hundreds) wasn’t enough to get them to spill the beans? They KNEW that these guns were going directly to murderous criminals yet they did nothing until one of the murdered was an agent.

Very true. They had a VERY high threshhold for “going along to get along” with clearly immoral and illegal behavior.

Something we’ve long known about them.

If they were truly “heroes” they would have turned in their supervisors as soon as the first straw buyer was allowed to walk.
