LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) Texas Gov. Rick Perry is telling students at the nation's largest evangelical university that they should raise their voices to keep Washington politicians from telling them how to live their lives.
Perry used Wednesday's speech at Liberty University to boost his presidential bid, at a time when he's fending off criticism from his GOP rivals.
Other candidates are hammering him for trying to require girls to receive a vaccine against a sexually transmitted disease and for backing tuition breaks for illegal immigrants.
Perry's remarks on campus largely overlooked such criticism. Instead he's urging students to stay faithful and trust in God.

Yeah that sounds conservative. Uh, this is the guy that used to be a Dem, right?
>>trust in God
The Judeo-Christian view of God I assume, not Allah...?
But getting back to tuition breaks for illegals... um, this is Rick Perry we're talking about right? Not Deval Patrick?
Depends on their last name. LOL
No government, state or federal, should dictate how you live your life.
Yeah, why teach kids that can’t be legally hired?
Javert is that you?
Hey your tagline is very true.
Just out of curiosity is it also true that you can’t elevate Palin by tearing down Perry?
“Get the HELL out of my way!”—John Galt, in A. Rand’s Atlas Shrugged
Just whether you get all your shots or not.
my sentiments exactly.
I actually got the tagline from a Perry supporter, just switched the names. I found it funny that this person was currently degrading Gov. Palin, with the tagline.
Besides, I’m not trying to elevate Gov. Palin.
Yes Perry true...and that includes mandates from unproven vaccines!
Well, St. Rick, State governments shouldn’t be telling people how to run their lives either...
All I want is a President who at least likes America instead of hating it to the core of his being.
I will tell you this it is not jsut washington - hell I ahve to get a permit for my fence. What has gone wrong in the world that a fence needs a permit. If it is new it should be good enough.
Back off of my french fries and my light bulbs.
I can certainly get behind that.
Yes. The horror: The Easy Bake oven will no longer be made since 10w light bulbs (non-twisty-light bulb) are banned.
Not sure if you’re being sarcastic. I am actually paying Perry a compliment here. Regan got a whole lot of mileage out of saying he’d “get government off our backs”. I have heard far too little of that from Republican candidates in recent years.
Except for mandating their shots. Oops, sorry, apparently that's a governor's prerogative, not Washington's.
