A lot of welfare are reparations payments go to the irresponsible and the lazy who intend to dodge all labor. However many do want to work. But where are the lousy jobs and the good jobs for them. My father had a sheet metal factory which employed 40 lower middle class men. Those kind of men’s jobs are much rarer in America today. This kind of work is mostly done outside of America or it is computerized and automated these days.

So of course all these people will want to live off Gov’t transfer payments rather than starve. They will live off “welfare” of various kinds and supplement that with off the books work and petty crime like drug dealing

In my opinion, if the regulations on minimum wage and employment were eliminated, a lot of small jobs would come back. Instead of my family mowing the lawn, I would have a small jobber mow the lawn, because I sure cannot afford the 90 dollar mowings by the local landscaper who has an enormous regulatory burden to meet.

During the Great Depression one of the slogans to lift us out of it was “Hire your neighbor”

Look, if I’m going to get crappy customer service no matter what (and generally speaking, customer service is all but dead in many if not most places in the US), I’d rather not have to pay extra to have some surly union twit screw me over, both at the point of sale and again when his union contributions fund the opposition at the ballot box. To hell with that, increase the automation levels and reduce the price. I get better service from bots anyway, and if I can’t operate it right I have nobody else to blame but myself. Unlike the slow-arsed (and not speaking in regards to mental capacity) union cashier I had to put up with last night.

I agree, small jobs done by fiat are not what I am talking about. I am talking about small jobs becoming available with good customer service because of a significant withdrawal of union-age and elimination of most minimum wage and employment laws.

So what about all the engineers who invented the machines to automate routine tasks? Should they not have done that? Are we lamenting the demise of the type writer too? Lots of secretaries out of work now don’t cha know. Perhaps computers and word processing were bad ideas. And don’t get me started on the farriers. That infernal automobile put them all out of work!!!!

Ok, cut the drama.

I am not advocating a Luddite position, technology marches on. BUT there are plenty of small jobs that have been eliminated, not because of technology, but because of government laws such as minimum wage, fear of lawsuit, now the Clown's healthcare bill (more than small jobs will be eliminated here). There is plenty of room in the world for people to pump gas, but it is too onerous for an employer to hire one, so, there is no customer service.

Considering that every single one of your predictions about Apple have been wrong, I’ll take your insult as an unintentional ‘you’re doing it the right way’ comment.

The fun part is that the left characterizes such things as McJobs and believed that they should be automated.

If you haven’t read it (but something tells me you might have) read Thomas Sowell’s excellent book “Basic Economics: A Citizen’s Guide to The Economy”.

He talks about the concept at length of the dynamics of how people move through jobs and economic classes throughout their life.

He explains how people, politicians and analysts talk about poverty/low income earners as if it is a bucket you go into, and stay in for the rest of your life...in actuality, MOST of us make journeys through that level, but people who are motivated do not stay there.

And by the way, I used to have about seven or eight cameramen. I don't have them anymore. It's all automated, it's all robots.

Clue to Prissy Chrissy: Robots don't fall asleep.

First the robots operate cameras.

Then they make their move to conquer the world.
