New Australian passports allow third gender option
BBC ^ | September 15th 2011 | Staff

Australians have been given a third choice when describing their gender on passport applications, under new guidelines aimed at removing discrimination.

Transgender people and those of ambiguous sex will be able to list their gender as indeterminate, which will be shown on passports as an X.

People whose gender was different from that of their birth were previously required to have reassignment surgery before they could change their passport to their preferred sex.

An Australian senator, Louise Pratt - whose partner was born female and is now identified as a man - said the reform was a huge step forward.

"There have been very many cases of people being detained at airports by immigration in foreign countries simply because their passports don't reflect what they look like," she told Australian radio.

Shouldn’t it be a “?” followed by a picture of “Chazz” Bono ?

This will mess up some tourists nicely somewhere. A passport is to identify a person seeking permission to ENTER a country. It’s not as important what the home state considers discriminatory, but what the destination country requires in the way of identifying the people seeking entry.

Sweden may not care. The Congo just might.

I suggest “confused”.

You are either a man, a woman, or you don’t know what you are.

I don’t see this as any more helpful if they go to countries where the Immigration Official (usually not of the educated class in that country) is looking for an “M” or an “F”. Does Australia have agreements with other countries to accept “X”?

Really, why stop at three? I guarantee, round-up a bevy of left-wing, liberal mind-think shrinks, gay/lesbian activists, government officials, ostrich-feather-festooned, effiminate Mardi-gras fairies, and you’ll have more f**ked-up, distinctive sexually-dysfunctional, ambiguous, freak-a-zoid categories then you can shake a dild0 at.

“Est-ce que tu es un frelk?”

His eyebrows rose, then he shook his head. “Une frelk,” he corrected.

“No, I am not. Sadly for me. You look as though you may once have been a man. But now...” He smiled. “You have nothing for me now. The police.” He nodded across the street where I noticed the gendarmerie for the first time. “They don’t bother us. You are strangers though...”

But what if you were born a person, but now believe that you are a goat?

Until the Australian government stops forcing people into species assignments, this intolerable discrimination of forcing individuals to identify themselves as their birth species will continue.

I remember when there were only four TV channels and only two sexes.

If in doubt look down.

‘X’ is not the third gender.

Everyone knows that ‘futa’ is the third gender. Why, there is plenty of evidence to that fact found in Google searches. (definitely *NOT* work safe)

;-P

Although I was physically born in the 20th century, I self-identify as part of the 23rd century. Specifically, the era I wish to live in would give me a birthdate of March 21, 2258. It is hateful and discriminatory to list my birthdate in the 1900s when I have never felt a part of that century. We should show sensitivity to people displaced in time.

Most TG people I have met are not particularly confused about their gender at all, they more firmly identify with their chosen gender than their biological gender. In fact, the problem with the true trans-gendered is so strong, it overcomes the very real problems with being TG.

I might be biased as my fiancee is trans-gendered.

I know people on free republic have a knee jerk repulsion for TG people as “freaks” and for religious reasons, but it is possible to be conservative and TG friendly. It is a very different thing to be trans than to be gay, and people truly in that situation (I leave out all the people that are ‘gender neutral’ or ‘playing with gender’ etc..) have a very difficult time. They don’t do it because it is easy, they don’t do it for a lark, they don’t do it to make a statement. I feel surgery and reassignment for true TG people is equivalent for medication and treatment for a schizophrenic, or handling any other true psychiatric disorder.

I now await the inevitable comments, and the ban. Frankly I’m just lucky I missed the Romney purge (though I don’t support him).

If I can get one concept through to you, trans is very different than gay.

Actually, I DO understand. My problem is that I think some of these stories I read have children in them that are not truly transgendered - they seem almost to be responding to their parent’s agenda.

If you have two lesbians raising a boy child, and the child wants to be a woman, I have to say I AM biased as to the subtle (or nonsubtle) cues these women are sending these kids. I’ve known lesbians- I remember one particularly that told me she won’t even read material written by a man. How could a woman like that raise a boy who is capable of embracing his own male sexuality?

I’m sure there are people that are raised in good families, and perhaps some of these things are truly an accident of birth. But I do suspect that so many of these people are the product of a childhood where they are exposed to sexually dysfunctional people.

Have you seen the stories with the woman painting her long haired son’s toenails pink? She just left her husband for a woman. If this boy was suddenly to come out and say he felt more like a girl than a boy, my guess is she would “affirm” his feelings. She might even, like the two lesbians I mentioned, seek after having her son’s puberty medically delayed until he was fifteen so he could “explore” what sex he wished to be.
