Gutierrez: 'I Want to Thank' Obama for Bypassing Congress to Cancel Deportation of Illegals

Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) thanked President Obama for circumventing the Legislative branch when it comes to immigration law.

Title 8 Section 1325 of the U.S. Code makes it a federal crime to be in the United States illegally. Nevertheless, the Obama administration in August directed federal immigration officials to use "prosecutorial discretion" in deciding which illegal aliens to detain and deport.

“We had a president of the United States that recently was speaking at National Council of La Raza who said during his speech, ‘There are those who simply wish me to bypass Congress when it comes to immigration,’ and many in the audience clapped, saying, ‘Yup, bypass Congress…’” Gutierrez told the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) conference on Monday.

“He (Obama) said, ‘But I can’t bypass Congress,’ and people in the audience said, ‘Yes you can,’ and you want to know something? They were right -- he could and he did, and I want to thank the President of the United States, and I want to thank all of those that work at the White House for issuing new guidance when it comes to deportations,” Gutierrez added.

(Obama in July told the National Council of La Raza that although the idea of bypassing Congress and changing U.S. immigration laws on his own was “very tempting,” his hands were tied because “that is not how our system works.”)

I checked again to make sure this post wasn’t from the satire site (`John Semmons’?) and it isn’t.

Our chief hired hand has the effrontery to allow himself to be quoted saying that he actually considered bypassing a coequal branch of government.
Incredible. The founders of this nation would, I think, be mortified to see how corrupted we have become.

Another ad that the GOP should take advantage of while reporting the untold billions these people are costing the taxpayers.

“Title 8 Section 1325 of the U.S. Code makes it a federal crime to be in the United States illegally.”

Unfortunately, not correct: this section makes it a federal offense to ENTER the country illegally. The act of being “in the United States illegally” is a civil matter, subjecting the person only to deportation. I’ve presented on this issue a number of times and can never get a straight answer when I ask why “illegal presence” isn’t ipso facto proof of illegal entry (unless there was an overstay on a visa, etc.).

The law needs amending to place the burden on the person who is present without authorization to prove that he or she DIDN’T enter illegally, IMHO.

I’m telling you, this is Obama’s winning strategy. Kiss up to the Hispanics and even grant Amnesty in time for millions of them to register and vote in November of 2012.

Just wow...a Congressman of a co-equal branch of government is happy that his branch has been bypassed to benefit his constituent group.

Can’t wait for the next regime to bypass Congress and physically deport 12 million leeches, including Luis for aiding and abetting human trafficking.

So the next president can mandate that they be turned into Soylent green.

BTW, Guitierrez was one of those who pushed a bill for a non-citizen presidency, also a buddy and recipient re: Rezko, etc..

Another POS. Don’t get me started on him.
