Just two days after his stunning upset, New Yorks new Republican congressman is officially on the job.
Businessman-turned-politician Bob Turner was sworn by House Speaker John Boehner at the the nations capital Thursday.
It was an important bipartisan election. Its the only way it can be done in New York City, Turner said in a brief speech after the ceremony. I also promise not to forget why Im here, and its the future which is ably represented by these handsome grandchildren not even the whole brood.
Turner has 13 grandchildren in all.
This is not something that we are used to doing in New York, but its a great moment, a great moment for New York, said Rep. Peter King.
Wednesday night, the Republican celebrated his surprising win in the special election to replace former Rep. Anthony Weiner. He attended a party fundraiser in midtown.
Hes the first member of the GOP to represent New Yorks 9th district since 1923.

Can I ask a stupid question?
Why was Turner sworn in just two days after the election, but after Scott Brown won the special Senate election in Massachusetts, he wasn’t sworn in for weeks, while the temp. replacement was allowed to remain in the Senate??? I know it’s a stupid question, but why in one case is a special election winner sworn in promptly, and in the other, Senate officials dragged their feet in certifying and swearing in Scott Brown????
because GOP controls the House, not the Senate
You know the answer to your own question.
Scott was a Republican who would end the Democrat Senate's filibuster-proof majority. Of course, they would delay. And, if the situation had been reversed, I imagine a GOP majority would've drug their feet, too.
Turner was a Republican entering a Republican House. No delay was necessary.

When Helen Thomas was still a beat writer.
Probably that different states have different laws concerning special elections.
Because when Scott was elected, they were voting on the obamascare bill and did not want another Repub to vote against it.

If you watch MSNBC or NBC Evening News, You STILL don’t know that a Roman Catholic won in New York City, in an almost Jewish Majority District.
You also won’t know that the US Embassy in Kabul was attacked in a tet-like attack.
It might harm the gay’s Messiah Obama, so the news must not be reported.

It would be like blacks in Harlem voting for McCain over Obama in 2008
