Flashback: Obama's Lunch Buddy's Company Given Obamacare Waiver (Olive Garden CEO)
Weekly Standard ^ | 7/12/11 | Daniel Halper

Posted on 09/16/2011 6:45:03 PM PDT by jimbo123

President Obama had lunch today with "four business leaders to discuss ideas to grow the economy and create jobs," according to the White House. The participants met to "discuss the importance of working with the private sector to promote job training efforts, including ways that companies have been partnering with higher educational institutions to develop curriculum and programs that ensure graduates will have the appropriate background and skills to succeed and get hired within the companies."

Curiously, one of the participants, businessman Clarence Otis, could have used today's affair to provide President Obama a "teachable moment" (a favorite phrase of the president himself). Otis might have explained to the president the negative effects of Obamacare, and why his business, Darden Restaurants, sought and received an Obamacare waiver.

Done!

We’re regulars at OG. No more.

Hope Spaghetti Warehouse isn’t in on this.
I can barely tolerate them so it wouldn’t take much.

Something’s really wrong when one makes a law for everyone then grants waivers for some.

Come on 2012!

Ok, let's see, this was in June. Then last month Obama met with Union leaders to discuss the same thing. So, I guess the college kids can look forward to Obama jobs creation plans for positions as wait staff at these restaurants, and making widgets on the assembly lines as union members. Gee,this all will make their moms and dads so very happy to have used up their lifelong savings on the kids' education.

Look, the Food Stamp President doesn’t even have to buy me lunch, and I will give him the best advice available for growing jobs: Read all of Thomas Sowell’s essays, fire your entire staff and cabinet and hire competent people, and finally, don’t do anything more.

Ciao Olive Garden. I’ll miss the zuppa Toscana but I just downloaded the recipe online.

Didn’t Moosechelle just give OG and Red Lob a ringing endorsement for their new “lighter” menus? Seems these two can’t go through a day without many forms of cronyism and pay for play.

Years ago the Olive oarden was OK for non Italians. Seriously though- it is far from a real Italian restuarant.

Oh I agree it’s not a great Italian place but it used to be a good place to get full for a small price. I would only eat lunch there. Never dinner. Used to be my wife and I could get all the soup, salad, and bread sticks you can eat plus a pasta dish at just over ten bucks for lunch. That wasn’t bad for a sit down restaurant. When they had the never ending bowl of pasta for $5 that was a good deal. It’s been a few months since I’ve been in an OG. The last time we went we decided to stop going. Their prices like everyone else’s are continually going up. Even still we may have gone ahead and ate there with others who like the place. Not now though. They are definitely off the list.

I've went to Olive Garden a few weeks ago....won't be back soon...they put the gratuity right on the bill and then have the guts to have a line for "additional tip"....

and today I went to Red Lobster....they're shrimp garlic scampi was horrible, basically small little shrimp swimming in butter and no flavor at all....I won't be back...

the only thing good about OG was the endless salad....but I can do the same thing at home...

besides....forgetabout those places...support local restaurants that actually cook the food the serve, not just reheat...

Just google the item and the restaurant name for any item you want to cook. Sometimes you’ll get the actual recipe but most times it will be a copy cat recipe. I did the OG Zuppa Toscana recipe last year. I’ve also made Panda Orange chicken and the pasta sauce from a restaurant chain on the East coast (Bertuccis) that I used to visit whenever work took me there.
