Anonymous's Occupation Of Wall Street Begins At Noon (Slept Late)
Gothamist ^ | 9/17/2011 | Christopher Robbins

A loose coalition of left-leaning groups like Adbusters and Anonymous are beginning their "occupation" of Wall Street today at noon. Their goal is to "see 20,000 people flood into lower Manhattan, set up tents, kitchens, peaceful barricades, and occupy Wall Street for a few months." According to the protest's website, a "leaked bulletin from the New York Police Department reveals that they expect at least 5,000" to show up today, and ask participants to being "warm clothing" along with other provisions due to the recent cold snap. Mayor Bloomberg told his eponymous news organization, "People have a right to protest, and if they want to protest, we’ll be happy to make sure they have locations to do it. As long as they do it where other people’s rights are respected, this is the place where people can speak their minds …"

Once in place, the protesters claim they will "incessantly repeat our one simple demand until Barack Obama capitulates," but what exactly is that demand? We won't know until a week from now, when they "publicly deliver [their] manifesto to the White House and to the American media," but looking at their list of possibilities, they are anything but "simple." Then again, neither are the problems.

The occupation won't be entirely "peaceful," as Anonymous is promising to roll out a new, more powerful hacking tool to cripple websites. According to ITWorld, the group recently tested it by bringing down WikiLeaks and Twitter. If the protesters make it until Monday, they'll be able to greet President Obama as he swings into town to speak to the UN and schmooze with wealthy donors.

"If we have peaceful assemblies and debates about what our demands to President Obama should be, then bit by bit we can create a situation that will rival what happened in Egypt," the editor of Adbusters tells CNN. While the occupation begins at 12:00 p.m. at North Bowling Green, the protest will amass in earnest at 3:00 p.m. at Chase Plaza.

Thanks for the link -- the comments are great! My favorite:

#usdayofrage Is this the new stupid idea to try to prevent attackwatch from being the most moronic thing on the internet?

The Twitter hash tag #USDayOfRage is almost as funny as #AttackWatch.

LOL! Between this and AttackWatch I have never laughed so much in my life!! My fave so far:

#USDayofRage What do we want! (we dunno), When do we want it! (We dunno that either) #FAIL #usdor 15 minutes ago

It would be good if you could wake up just for one day on 6 Nov 2012...Sarah Palin would appreciate your vote.

Kelly will let them camp out for months on Wall St? lol I have to admire the self-important attitude. That being said, how in league is Bloomberg, Unions, Obama in this Spring deal? They do know it’s Autumn?

I’m with Steve.

Bobz, do a search on Solyndra and Goldman Sachs. Or JP Morgan and food stamps. Or any Wall Street bank and mortgage fraud.

What’s going on on Wall Street today is two groups who both feel they have divine right (”we’re doing God’s work” - Lloyd Blankfein, Chairman and CEO, Goldman Sachs) to steal from you and me, without restraint.

Think Stalin vs. Hitler. The liberty loving American patriot has no skin in this matchup, except to hope that they each inflict maximum casualties on each other and thus have left to bring to bear against us. In this scenario, we are all Poles.

If Obama was running for dog catcher, I’d turn out
to vote for his opponent.

I’m still trying to get my head around the fact that 5000 people will show up and risk arrest, when they don’t even know what they’re protesting against.

Like good democrats they’re having to protest to find
out what they are protesting against.

The police should just break out the soapy water...that should terrify them enough.

Have been told yrs ago in Boston they’d have the police horses crap on the streets and drag the hippies through the horse droppings.

Prob no Day of Rage in Boston today; hippies there have the usual Freedom (i.e., legalize hemp) rally

Out there somewhere. Funny, we’re still at war etc but nobody seems to have anti war rallies anymore with a Dem in the white house.

Some tweets from Day of Rage itself:
>>We’ll change the name US Day of Rage, which IS NONVIOLENT, when Pentagon changes name of Operation Enduring Freedom, which IS VIOLENT

>>Good to start the day with a healthy breakfast. Make sure you charge your batteries & take water
(me, Note to hippies: DURACELL IS A CORPORATION!! EVIL!)
