Mary Jo Kopechne died in 1969--42 years ago. It was right about the time of the first moon landing. Nixon had invited Teddy to be present at Cape Canaveral for the occasion of the launch but he turned down the invitation--if he had gone there he wouldn't have been at the party in Chappaquiddick.

Or did you mean that Kara's lifespan was 23 years longer than Mary Jo's?

It's curious how this news report calls her Kara Kennedy and a different story has her as Kara Kennedy Allen (she had two children by her former husband). It's as if the Kennedy name was royalty and counts more than any other surname.
