I don't put much stock in the statement that the Tea Party loves Perry. Of my Tea Party compatriots, the nicest thing I've heard said about Perry is that he isn't "as bad as Romney". After which I'm quick to point out, with the re-election of Obama guaranteed to fail, why on Earth would we set our mark at Romney's level for "good enough"? Perry's healthcare position and immigration positions are awful. He was boo'd on stage by Tea Party-ers while voicing his stance on illegal immigration. Those are two very, very, very large chunks of government spending and we are Taxed Enough Already. I suggest we support a candidate we would not boo.

The Tea Party loves Rick Perry?

The TP does not agree with Perry on the big-government, nanny-state Gardasil debacle.

The TP does not agree with Perry on his opposition to the border fence.

The TP does not agree with Perry on his opposition to Arizona trying to defend itself from the ILLEGAL hordes that he wants to make citizens.

The TP opposed Perry on the TTC.

The TP does not support Perry’s warped view that anyone opposing instate tuition for ILLEGAL aliens does so because of the ILLEGAL aliens’ last names.

The TP did not agree with Obama and Pelosi’s stimulus bailout plan yet Perry took stimulus cash anyway.

Rick Perry is a big government, progressive neocon candidate much the same as Mitt Romney ;he is a fraud and anything but in line with the TP's core principles.

Hardball: Why the Tea Party Loves Rick Perry

Got news for you Chris, the tea party does not love Perry. It's the status quo, Clinton wing of the Republican party that loves him. The ones who don't give a damn how much corruption is in government as long as it's the Republicans reaping the benefits of it.

The Tea Party does NOT like Rick Perry OR mitt Romney. They are RINO’s, and therefore part of the PROBLEM.

Absolutely true. Beware anyone who says anything to the contrary, especially one of the most liberal networks on television, MSNBC.

I am a Tea Party activist and I am currently undecided. When I do choose a candidate I will choose the most conservative candidate possible — and that, by default, eliminates the pro-ILLEGAL alien RINO by name of Ricardo Perrinista.

If the primary were held today, the most Tea Party votes would go to Perry, followed by Romney then Bachmann. In a heads-up race between the two, Perry would pull in 59 percent of the vote.

per my link

The most conservative candidate available seems to be Perry.

I'm not on here to shill for him - I'm not a huge fan of his...But he's better than Romney, Palin seemingly isn't running and Bachmann and the rest don't stand a chance.

Unless someone else pops up, quick, then the choice is taken from us.

Polls are not intended to measure public opinion but to shape it.

Try thinking for yourself and stop listening to what media organizations tell you.

Perry did admittedly give vocal support to the Tea Party early in the game, well before most other politians, and I give him credit for that. however, being a part of the Tea movement from it’s earliest days here in my corner of Texas, my observation was that Perry was not particularly popular with the folks. He was ‘tolerated’ at best.

The Tea Party doesn't love Rick Perry, why are they lying?

Jerry DeLemus, chairman of the Granite State Patriots Liberty PAC, a tea party umbrella group, described the Texas answer as “wrong-headed” and a “big negative” against Perry’s White House hopes. Katrina Pierson, a member of the Dallas Tea Party’s steering committee, said “Governor Perry has not met the standards, for me, to be the President of the United States if he can’t even address the real issues here in Texas.”

I particularly liked South40's post from another thread.

Rick Perry Tea Party?

The TP does not agree with Perry on the big-government, nanny-state Gardasil debacle.

The TP does not agree with Perry on his opposition to the border fence.

The TP does not agree with Perry on his opposition to Arizona trying to defend itself from the ILLEGAL hordes that he wants to make citizens.

Please name a more conservative candidate that has a chance of winning, that I may throw my insignificant support behind him/her.
