Wow! This guy really gets it, especially with this statement:

One of the reasons unemployment is so high among minorities is that business owners (particularly small business) are wary of legal liability associated with various categories of protected minorities. The fear of litigation, and the costly judgments that can ensue, are real. Given that it is nearly impossible for an employer to control all the aspects of the workplace environment, litigation risk is a tangible consideration. Given all the legal avenues afforded by legislation, minority employees are much more likely to sue employers. To avoid this, some employers simply look to avoid this outcome by sticking with less risky employee categories. It is not racism that causes this discrimination, but a rational desire to mitigate liability. The reality is that a true free market would punish employers that discriminate based on race or other criteria irrelevant to job performance. That is because businesses that hire based strictly on merit would have a competitive advantage. Anti-discrimination laws titled the advantage to those who discriminate.

I've actually had people in the business tell me the same thing: IOW, there are no legal repercussions from firing a white guy so there is no risk to be factored into a hiring decision either.

Connecticut had a rare opportunity to send Schiff to the US Senate last year.

The Republican voters were too uninformed to understand their own predicament. Schiff lost the primary to Linda McMahon.

Schiff wanted to be a "Mr. Smith" in the Senate. A one-man filibuster to make Americans aware of the serious economic situation. Well, he finally got to testify.

I was very close to the Schiff Campaign. Here's one of my videos from early 2010.

Peter writes notes and passes it to Dr. Boushey who arguing Stimulus creates jobs. She immediately turns it upside down on table and Peter immediately faces the writing upward with flick of wrist. LOL.

When my parents were trying to rent out their house back in 1966, they had to go out one day and told me that if anyone who called “sounded black”, tell them it is rented. I asked them why. My dad said, and I paraphrase, “If we rent to a white person and they are a deadbeat, we can kick them out. If we rent to a black person and they are a deadbeat, it is much more difficult to get rid of them.”

The quote in your post merely amplifies it. And it has been going on for DECADES!

I think it has left a mark.

My wife saw quite a few people fired from where she worked. Two of them were black. One was such a dead beat it was a wonder they put up with her for as long as they did.

Both of the black employees sued for discrimination. Fortunately, they also both lost.

Oh, and they were the only two that sued.

Thanks Palin. I watched it. It’s a shame because we lost a good man. Linda McMahon is talking about running again. She’s another RINO.

A comment from therightscoop - I don’t know if they’re useful as I haven’t read them yet but thought I’d add them here:

On GBTV yesterday, GB said the question is not IF obama is a Marxist, the question is “Does it matter?”.

Peter Schiff’s story is one of many examples of what we can expect in obama’s Marxist American system.

Unfortunately, Schiff was casting pearls before swine. The doofus congressmen demonstrated their abject ignorance of how an economy works time and time again. And the reference expert PhD dame was even more stupid then the congressmen. We are done for with this gaggle in charge.

Having had my own very small business I can sympathize with some of what Mr. Shiff has to say. However, he points out that important aspects of economic growth are “savings and investment”. Unfortunately, at present many large businesses and banks are swimming in cash (savings), but they are NOT lending it out (investment). The Fed is supporting them in this behavior by paying banks .25% for parking all this money with the Fed. Eliminate this payment and they might actually start to “invest.”

Unfortunately, I don’t know what company Mr. Shiff is the CEO of, nor what his pay in salary and other benefits might be. However, I did do a 4 year study of the pay of the major banking and financials CEOs, and the results were amazing. Salaries for CEOs of dead companies like Countrywide and Lehmans paint a picture. Countrywide Finncial’s CEO salary in 07 was $142 million, in 08 it was “drasticly” cut to a paultry $103 million. /sarc. Lehman’s CEO salary in the same time period was increased from $52M to $72M. On the other hand the CEO of Citigroup had a salary cut in the same period from $18M to a genuinely reduced $.95M and survived. Then, there is the special case of Goldman Sachs (friends with benies) which raised the 07 salary of $37M to $74M and is doing just fine thank you. [Source “Forbes CEO Compensation” for years in question.]

Then people wonder why Obama is able to get traction with his millionaire tax talk, and why people in the middle class groan when Republicans accuse them of Class Warfare.

I never understood the blacks sueing for discrimmination, and I know companies are afraid of that.

I told my daughter who was faced with having to fire a black to tell them: "We're you black when we hired you?"

That right there is the answer for all.

Mr Schiff's remarks illustrate the sort of reasoning you learn if you read and understand (the second partof that is easy). Henry Hazlitt's little book Economics in One Lesson. Shiff's reasoning is all in that book plus the examples that are immediately appropriate.

Thirty years ago we were renting out the house next door for the owner, my FIL and the first applicant was a black single mother lawyer working for CPS who let her small daughter play untended in the street while she inquired about the house. We had small children at the time and knew that that woman, once she got into that house, would be impossible to remove and would not have to pay rent and we would probably have to pay for her utilities for so long as she decided to stay. The extortion possibilities were overwhelming. Needless to say we had to explain to her that we had already promised the place to another and that we would surely call the lawyer lady if the other did not decide to take it. After that we took the sign down and just “put out the word” and rented it to an older couple, also black, but with a long marriage and children who were all employed in career jobs. It was a good rental experience- stable people with no grudges.

I’ll speculate that the elderly couple may have had a more difficult time finding a place they would want because landlords may have been afraid of the same thing you were with the woman with the child. The government created a “valid” reason for potential landlords to discriminate based on race because the governments laws discriminate based on race.
