A white supremacist who was sentenced to death for the murder of a black man in an horrific killing that echoed the atrocities of the lynching era is to be executed today.
Lawrence Russell Brewer, 44, is scheduled to be put to death by lethal injection at 6pm for his part in the 1998 killing of James Byrd, Jr in East Texas.
Brewer was one of three men convicted of killing Byrd after they offered him a lift along a remote country road.

You tell me; laws are never the answer and I personally think that, that scum is going to end up where he deserves. Laws don’t always end up creating closure the way the death penalty does. Laws can be changed, death can’t.
He should be dragged to death down a three-mile stretch of country road.
Killers should, at the very least, be made to feel what their victims felt.
I think that it should be expedited only if there is concrete proof, like this instance or in the instance of Ted Bundy. Other than that, I think that four to five years while analysts go over the evidence and ensure that guilt is irrefutable. It’s too easy to end up killing an innocent.

It should not take this long; it should have been thirteen months to get ready to meet his Maker and then inject the little fart.
For this horrific crime, the perpep gets to leave this life in a nice sterile, comfortable room with a nice humanitarian type injection.
He and his bastard friends should, at the very least, be hung by their necks until dead - by a very inept hangman.
I must disagree with you. ROOM TEMPERATURE is much, much to comfortable for this scum. I’d sort of think a much, much warmer place would be quite deserving.
Query...is Amnesty, the ACLU and the anti-death penalty crowd preparing for the protest marches and displays over this execution? Yah right.
Could anyone even imagine Attorney General John Ashcroft saying this case “disparages my people”?

Lethal injection is too nice of a way to kill such a monster. He should have to go the way his victim went.
