Sarah Palin: I am still considering running for president

The State Column | Staff | Wednesday, September 21, 2011

Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin said Wednesday that she remains interested in seeking the 2012 Republican presidential nomination even as a recent poll shows a vast majority of Republican voters oppose her candidacy.

“I think people are still going to be coming and going because there is still time, and I’m still one of those still considering,” Ms. Palin said during an appearance on Fox News. “There is still time…And I think on both sides of the aisle, you’re going to see people coming and going in this race.”

Ms. Palin, who has repeatedly hinted at a potential run for president, said earlier this year that she is likely to announce her decision at the end of the month. A number of political analysts have questioned whether the former Alaska governor will enter the race.

Ms. Palin’s comment comes as a McClatchy poll reported that 72 percent of respondents who identified themselves as Republican or Republican-leaning independents do not want the former vice presidential nominee to run for president in 2012. Just 24 percent said they support the idea of a Palin presidential bid.

Speaking Wednesday, Ms. Palin said she remains confident that the current field of Republican presidential candidates can defeat President Obama in the November general election.

“We need to change the entire game plan. And we need to change the entire team that’s been there at White House doing such great damage to our economy,” the former Alaska governor said. “We need to make sure that we have the best and most qualified. The most vetted candidate to come forth and rise to the surface after this primary process.”

If she doesn’t, Rick Perry will fill her shoes... he just won’t look as good in them.

The dems strategy for Perry is easy to see.....Bush II. Texas, Governor, male. No matter what the reality they're going to paint him as the second coming of GWB and blame him for the mess we're in.

The sad part is that people will buy it.

Will FoxNews fire Palin tomorrow, or is she just in it for the money?

Wow...and you call yourself a conservative? I guess?

If Palin is considering running, I call on her to quit her job as a paid member of the media tonight.

Based on what?

Palin is watching some dynamic, there’s something she expects...I’d really like to know what.

I don’t like Palin stringing the conservative base along as she sells book and gets speaking fees.

What does that mean?

Today, a candidate can make an announcement and within minutes, you can view the speech on YouTube or read about it on any number of websites. So if anything, we should be shortening up our election cycle, not adding to it..

Should Palin decide to run, I expect the timing will look a lot better in hindsight...she's watching something we can't see.

I just think it's a bit disingenuous of her to use her position in the media to take potshots at the GOP field

Why?

***** It probably is a good strategy - it worked for Reagan *****

That is such a distortion of reality.

It was well known that Reagan WOULD run for the GOP nominationin 1980. Reagan He nearly ran Ford out of town in 1976, came within a few inches of that nomination.

What worked for Reagan was his back to back wins in New Hampshire and South Carolina, which Reagan needed after GHWB pulled an upset in Iowa.

Reagan getting into the race in November had NOTHING to do with his eventual triumph.

At this point, why wouldn’t Gov. Palin run? Supposedly, according to secret sauce massaging of the McClatchy-Marist poll, Palin is actually tied (even though the poll had her -4 or -5, IIRC) with Obama.

Oh, and a Sun Tzu, nudge nudge wink wink we’re the smartest kids in the room answer? Stow it. That one’s tired, shopworn, and worse — arrogant.

So if she’s tied with Obama, and the country is headed for Recession #2, seems like it’s a fertile time for Palin to jump in.

I’m not saying she has to do it now. She can do whatever she wishes.

Obama looks particularly vulnerable, incumbency or no incumbency.

Rush deconstructed Obama’s bridge and other visits beautifully today. Rushbo said Obama “looked small.”

So why not run? Palin could actually win it. So could just about any of the GOP candidates. And several of them, including Gov. Perry, are actually conservatives.

Aug 12, 2011....

“..After another month or two goes by, they .......”

hmmmmm

Aug to September = one month....

Sept to October = two months.....

Seems to me like she’s within her schedule.......

What’s the hurry? None of the Republican wanna be’s are going anywhere......plenty of time to seat them in their secondary role of supporting her presidential run.....plenty of time.......

Excellent analysis. I concur 100% (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2781331/posts?page=100#100)
I think one of the big challenges for some is she is not following in anyone’s footsteps or pattern. History in the making is hard to see when it is happening :)

“...So why not run? Palin could actually win it.”

If Obama were running possibly. If Hillary Clinton jumps in to save the day absolutely not. All the Blacks and Democrats who voted for Obama will vote for Hildebeast. Palin would be out of luck.
