Missouri Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder voted to send $2.5 million in state funds to a non-profit company he headed, giving the appearance of a conflict of interest, according to auditors.
Missouri Auditor Tom Schweichs office said today in a report that Kinder served as chairman of the board of Tour of Missouri, Inc., which promoted state-wide cycling races in 2008 and 2009. At the same time, auditors noted, Kinder served as chairman of the states Tourism Commission and voted for budgets that sent $2.5 million in state money to the corporation for the events.
The commission minutes do not indicate whether the lieutenant governor notified the commission about his role with Tour of Missouri, Inc., and the possibility of a conflict of interest, auditors wrote. Based on our review, at least some of the commission members did not appear to be aware of the lieutenant governors role with the non-profit.
The audit recommended that the commission should establish a better conflict-of-interest policy.

With recent polls showing he is performing no better than third-rate unknown candidate Bill Randles in a head-to-head with Nixon, Kinder (IMO) needs to back away from a bid for governor. It would be tough enough facing Nixon who has had no major stumbles dealing with an overwhelming Republican statehouse (unlike bumbling Bob Holden), but with a thousand paper cuts Kinder is looking somewhat anemic to voters.
MISSOURI PING LIST PING
sorry about that, wrong MO thread
Low volume ping list
FReepmail me to be on, or off, this list.
Paper cut?
If it wasn't a Rat it would be a severing of the artery.
Maybe it will cost more because they have to convince patrol drivers that CARS don’t float & BOATS cannot be used on land.
The actual extra cost was $2.7 million. The Water Patrol also has a stack of old patrol boats in storage and no plan to dispose of them.
This was supposed to save $3 million.
If the KC Red Star hates and is attacking Kinder, he’s the man for me.
He approved the $2.5mil for the Tour of Missouri because he knew how good it was for the state. So good in fact, that he sat on the board to help promote the event and his state further.
I guess the KC Star would rather we had just bought Nixon a private jet with the cash so he could race Claire McCaskill.
Why has corruption by our officials become so rampant in the USA, and so few of those involved prosecuted? Yet average Joes are prosecuted to the hilt for even minor crimes.
We need to start seeing some aggressive prosecution and severe punishment for those found guilty to serve as a deterrent to others of their ilk.
Prosecuters are government officials too, that’s why.
