Perry’s collapse makes way for Christie and others?
WAPO ^ | 09/23/11 | Jennifer Rubin

Yesterday I wrote a vignette in jest suggesting what New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie might be yelling at his TV during the GOP debate. Unlike his alter-ego in my vignette, the real Bill Kristol did not call Christie to plead nor drive over to his house to urge him to get into the race. Instead he used his Web site , figuratively speaking, to run over Texas Gov. Rick Perry with an 18-wheeler and drive through Christie’s living room window:

With nine candidates on the stage, and answers restricted to one minute, it’s hard to really show your stuff. And two of the candidate — Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney — did provide respectable performances. But no front-runner in a presidential field has ever, we imagine, had as weak a showing as Rick Perry. It was close to a disqualifying two hours for him. Bill’s solution: “A big man for a big job.” And you know who that is.

[Perry not only shot himself in the foot with these people for his poor debate performance, he shot himself in the foot with conservatives for his stubborn defense of incentives for illegal aliens to stay in Texas and increase their footprint. That’s a non starter for many conservatives just as much as Romney’s stubborn defense of socialized medicine is a nonstarter.]

Of course, Romney as a liberal Governor of a northeastern state, has no record on immigration to defend unlike Perry who is Governor of a state that shares a 1200 mile border with Mexico.

Talk is cheap.

Like I said, he’s GREAT for New Jersey - the best we can hope for.

The REST of America STILL thinks that Sharia Law and Islam is dangerous, illegals need to be stopped and the First and Second Amendments are still in effect.

He’s another Julie-Annie.

Read my links and find another candidate. You can’d crucify Perry on just tuituion for illegals and then come out and support THIS guy.

Yep, those “fools” don’t have any “heart” Nothing else is causing them concern than how he did in a debate?

Perry definitely hurt himself last night, and both he and Romney have past policy albatrosses around their necks: Perry his open borders stance on immigration and Romney his Romneycare.

That does leave an opening for another candidate, but I don’t think Cristi is the one. He’s also weak on illegal immigration and has other issues in his past that make Perry look like a real conservative.

Sarah Palin is the one who could come in and totally oppose Obamacare and also present an “enforce the law” position on illegal immigration. That’s what I hope will happen because the two present leaders both have issue problems that put off many potential Republican voters.

Therefore, Perry’s response to the invasion is to lie down and accept defeat? Give them freebies, so the illegals will be nice to him?
I think one of the major reasons why states are going bankrupt is the huge influx of illegals receiving social and public services.

Last night's performance was the first tangible evidence that I have seen that backs up your theory that Rick Perry truly is a creation of Rove and Romney.

I can't imagine how a GOP POTUS candidate could make even Romney look good by comparison without it being intentional.

lol- talk??? those are examples of actions he’s undertook...

btw- i did not “crucify” Perry- i’m just laughing at people demanding the perfect conservative candidate that has a real chance of winning the national election and ripping all the rest (ala you with Christie) at the risk of having the POS presently in the WH stay there another four years...

Correct. Perry, Cristie, Julie Ann, Romney are basically the same things with slightly different packaging. Some of them may be better on particular issues. Some of them may be fiscally more competent.

Amy of them are better than the open Marxist in the white house now. But none of them are ideal. Not even close.

I had hope for Perry my impression of him is a phoney weakling. He riminds me of a highly touted minor league ballplayer. He can’t handle major league pitching.
One thing about Romney he had to govern in Ma. where the legislature is over 90% hard left democrats.
Romney would have won a second term a gov. if he ran.
One thing about Romney he can stand on his own feet through all the slings and arrows from the media and has had plenty of practice doing so as Gov. in Ma.
Perry will wilt like he did last nite and that was among friendly fire.
The whole key to this election is to save the country by getting rid of OBama.Romney might be a RINO but he is our best shot.

The media has two reasons for Proping up Romney with these debates.

Oh, I agree.

Romney is by far the worst of the bunch and my objective is to do anything I can to keep him from getting the nomination.

Well, Ron Paul is bad, too, but he doesn't stand a chance even though he's calling himself "third place."

Damn interesting theory. I wouldn't bet the family farm that you are right. But I wouldn't even bet the outhouse that you are wrong.

[Therefore, Perry’s response to the invasion is to lie down and accept defeat? ]

Actually, no. He wants the federal government to enforce federal immigration law. As the governor of TX, however, he has to deal with the problems caused by the refusal of the federal government to stop the illegal invasion.

[I think one of the major reasons why states are going bankrupt is the huge influx of illegals receiving social and public services.]

Which is why Perry has begged the Obama Administration to enforce our immigration laws and protect the border.

Well, yes, yes he did.
