Romney is Running Rings Around Perry
Commentary ^ | Sept. 23, 2011

I hope Gov. Rick Perry enjoyed his six week run as the front runner of the GOP field, because it's now over. Perry has had three debates. His first was mediocre. His second debate performance was weaker than his first, and last nights debate was worse than either of the first two. He comes across as unprepared, sometimes unsteady, and at times his answers border on being incoherent. And his stand on illegal immigration will hurt him with the GOP base. A lot of conservatives rallied to Perry based on what they assumed he was, having seen him hardly at all.

And David continued to pray to the blue fairy... she who smiled softly forever. She who welcomed forever. Eventually, the floodlights died... but David could still see her, palely, by day. And he still addressed her, in hope. He prayed until all the sea anemones had shriveled and died... as the ocean froze... and the ice encased the amphilbicopter and the Blue Fairy... locking them together where he could see her... a blue ghost in ice. Always there. Always smiling. Always awaiting him. Eventually, he never moved at all... but his eyes always stayed open... staring ahead forever all though the darkness of each night... and the next day... and the next day... Thus, 2000 years passed by.

Perry is the 2011 version of Rudy v2008.

Big lead in "all the polls" before he enters, then as soon as he makes it official he crashes and burns. That being said, at least Rudy had the decency to not infer that the GOP base were RACISTS!

Now I've been called every name in the book - many in a foreign language :-) - but when a politician who wants and needs MY VOTE calls me a Racist by innuendo, he can go take a flying (blank)!

It's "Hasta la vista, baby"

A president can't repeal Obamacare. The Congress will have to pass legislation for there to be a full repeal of Obamacare, then the president would have to sign it.

There is NO Republican currently running who wouldn't sign the bill to repeal ObamaCare so this shouldn't even be an issue. If a Republican congress passes the repeal (and I am sure they would) then all of the candidates currently running would, as President, sign that repeal.

Romney said in the last debate that he would give WAIVERS to all 50 states for Obamacare.

Romney did NOT say he would REPEAL Obamacare.

There is a MASSIVE difference between these two. Almost all Americans supporting Romney will not understand the difference between a WAIVER and a REPEAL.

The President has no authority to provide any WAIVER for any Federal Law. In short, Romney publicly lied and enablers will allow him to get away with it.

I do not think we will have a fillibuster-proof majority in the Senate.

It's been pointed out that in the case of ObamaCare repeal, only a simple majority is needed.

Too bad Romney always seems like such a wimp. In these dangerous times, we need someone tough enough to match those times.

lol

Perry is still leading by wide margins.

As soon as the next poll comes out again showing Perry trouncing the field by double digits, he needs to have a press conference and say “the news of my political death seems to have been greatly exaggerated” lol

Romney did NOT say he would REPEAL Obamacare.

And you think if the Repeal bill came to his desk he would suddenly decide to commit political suicide by NOT signing it? Perhaps in a wild fiction story but in real life not a chance.

Pray regularly to the Blue Fairy to make this come true.

Romney is the media's choice. He's this year's John McCain.

Romney is also the Democrat Party's first choice; they see him as beatable. It's odd that he is also the first choice of guys like Rove and other RINOs -- just like Dole and McCain.

so according to you and the other perry bashers.

states rights only apply to gay marriage and romneycare.

a state legislature can't vote nearly unanimously to give all the children who live there a deal on tuition if it so chooses.

GOT IT!

*rolls eyes*

Exactly, I want to see the lower tier candidates start tearing down Romeny as I will be damned if we get stuck with another Bush or McCain this time around.

Romney is only talking about waivers granted by the executive branch....not enough to stop the goliath.

Um...waivers on DAY ONE of his presidency. Somehow, I don't think it is possible to get Repeal through both House and Senate in time for a signature by the new president on DAY ONE. I would wager that ObamaCare (after being effectively taken off the rails by a blanket waiver) would be OFFICIALLY repealed by no later than the end of Winter 2013. Probably well before that...no matter which of the current crop of candidates is elected president.

Who are these people? I would like to talk to them. I remember in 2008 there ewas one particular FReeper that was a big Romeny supporter. I don’t see her lately but maybe she is still asround she is GOP_Lady and she seemed like a shill for him she was so over the top for Romeny despite him being one of the biggest RINOs of 2008.

So what are all those ObamaCare waivers currently being issued on a big scale? Chopped liver?

exactly! I fear there are Americans that watrched the debate that believe Romeny when he said on day one of his presidency he weill repeal Obamacare by executive order. Romeny is pretending to be a conservative on stage but his liberal roots will start to show. I think he will self imploded eventually before Nov. 2012 but I want to see the true conservatives fillet him like a sturgeon and label him as a RINO.

I'm no Perry fan, but couldn't you attach a barf alert to this one?

Romney is running rings around someone who might as well be a stump, it's not because he's a good candidate, it's because Perry has shown himself to simply be awful.

Perry has a complete lack of presidential gravitas — he has an odd way of responding, then cocking his head in an almost mechanical way, posing with a self-satisfied grin (as if he had just paged through his vast holdings).

I have a friend (female) who got to meet them all on a receiving line at the debate before this one. She was shocked at Perry's attitude in person.

Her take was that he was a frat boy at heart, with no real sense of his own lack of depth or capacity.
