In Texas Schools, Perry Shuns Federal Influence ………"When Secretary of Education Arne Duncan jabbed Mr. Perry on public schools in mid-August, it was only the latest skirmish between the governor and the Obama administration since late 2009, when Mr. Perry announced that the state would not sign on to common core-curriculum standards."...

Gov. Perry sued for Texas' money (without Washington telling us how to spend it) -- And won! -- Promise Kept.

Texas Knows Best How to Educate Our Students [Gov. Rick Perry said "no" to competing in "Race to the Top."]

The Left is signaling that they hope a President Perry will fix education and get the inner cities out from under the impossible mess they've created.

Will Rick Perry Unravel the Strange Consensus on Public Education?

AFTER THE TEACHER UNIONS .....

the TRIAL LAWYERS are lining Perry up in their sights.

Trial lawyers prep for war on Perry America’s trial lawyers are getting ready to make the case against one of their biggest targets in years: Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

Among litigators, there is no presidential candidate who inspires the same level of hatred – and fear – as Perry, an avowed opponent of the plaintiffs’ bar who has presided over several rounds of tort reform as governor.

And if Perry ends up as the Republican nominee for president, deep-pocketed trial lawyers intend to play a central role in the campaign to defeat him.

That’s a potential financial boon to a president who has unsettled trial lawyers with his own rhetorical gestures in the direction of tort reform. A general election pitting Barack Obama and Perry could turn otherwise apathetic trial lawyers into a phalanx of pro-Obama bundlers and super PAC donors. …..”

And of course Gov. Perry and Texas' battle with the EPA!

Rick Perry’s Air War (with the EPA)...........>>>Texas alone opted for the unfriendly approach. It’s the only state that did not issue a plan for compliance—and Perry has made it clear that Texas has no intention of complying. The move was a blatant slap to the Obama administration—and once again gave Perry the national spotlight. Defying the climate rules offered him the perfect opportunity to loudly decry the science of global warming—which in his book Fed Up! he calls a “contrived phony mess that is falling apart under its own weight”—and to slam EPA as a “rogue agency” with an “activist mind-set” that has “targeted Texas.” Such rhetoric is viral catnip to the tea party voters who could help catapult Perry to the 2012 presidential nomination.<<<..............

David Stein: Debunking the Rick Perry “Pro-Shraria” School Curriculum Myth

Amil Imani Governor Perry's Islam Connection ………”No matter how I tried, I couldn't reach the conclusion that this inclusion promotes Islam or is pro-Sharia. It seems that the mere fact that Islam is included in the curriculum represents supporting it. And with regard to the concern that the education curriculum Perry promoted is pro-Arab and against Israel, the evidence is exactly the opposite. The lesson on Israel reads: …”

I didn't DVD the debate, but I thought I quickly heard Romney say, at the end of his time limit, that he supported the teachers union. It's a quick, split second clip. He had his hands over his chest at the time if I remember correctly.
If some one has this recorded, could they check that out? If I'm right, people should be reminded of it.

YES! He did.

Romney wanted to be sure the union heard that (translation: go after Perry hard -- I won't bother you as president).

Teacher UNIONS # 1 money and muscle behind the Democratic Party.

MittRomney was (is) who knows?? -- a global warming green energy guy (lawsuits and EPA regulations will continue under his watch).

It is all fine and dandy that he is engaged with his battles against the NEA and Education Department. There are other candidates who also have the same tact.

Again, with that said, it only takes one “Oh Shiite” to sink a boatload of “Atta Boys”. I like many of the stances Rick espouses but the Executive Order means of legislation and then telling us we have no heart for ILLEGALS sunk two boats.

Romney’s boat has been so obliterated that the entire hull is gone. Of the remaining announced and those considering candidates, there is still lots of water to pass under the bridge and room for many more “Oh Shiite” moments from them all.

We should all be in vetting mode right now and not in decision making

YES! He did.

I thought that's what I heard him say. The turd is nothing but a lying, two faced Massachusetts liberal. Yesterday, he was pro-abort, pro- government health care, pro-union, pro-big spender, pro-immigration. Today, he claims he's always been a TEA party thinker! Why.. he's one of us and always has been!
The man is absolutely repulsive. Any conservative that supports this guy is going to be very, very sorry they did if he ends up our front runner. There WILL be buyers remorse - big time!

It really is simple. **ALL** Republicans need to say and **DO** the following:

If elected my party and I will **immediately** and completely close the Department of Education.

If elected my party and i will **immediately** and completely repeal Obamacare.

If elected my party and I will **immediately** and completely defund National Broadcasting and the National Endowment of the Arts.

etc......

I guess he hasn’t shut down his campaign just yet.

Education ‘Departments’ siphon off alarming percentages of monies from the classroom.

Let’s say a school ‘spends’ 10,000 per student and has 1000 students. That amounts to 10,000,000 per system. 80% of that money typically goes to salaries. So, using the above equation, 8,000,000 goes to salaries. At a student teacher ratio of 30:1, there would be 10,000 / 30, or 333.34 teachers. The teachers would not earn the same pay, depending on seniority and schooling, but an average across these numbers would be 8,000,000 / 333.34 = 23999.52,which should be the average teacher salary for such a system.

These figures are WAY low.

See the CATO institute’s analysis for more discussion: March 10, 2010 Policy Analysis no. 662. “They Spend WHAT? The Real Cost of Public Schools”
by Adam B. Schaeffer
http://www.cato.org/pub_display.php?pub_id=11432

(Sample quotes from above”
“To put public school spending in perspec-tive, we compare it to estimated total expendi-tures in local private schools. We find that, inthe areas studied, public schools are spending93 percent more than the estimated medianprivate school.”

“Table 1
Arlington County Public School District Expenditures for 2008, as Reported by the
District, State, and Regional Organizations

Total Expenditures
District $425,864,361
State $436,223,759
Regional $444,105,215

Table 15:State figure, http://www.doe.virginia.gov/VDOE/Publications/asrstat/2007-08/asrbook.html; Washington Area Boardof Education, “WABE Guide FY2008,” November 2007 Chart: FY2008 Approved Fund Expenditures, pp. 23, 24.Regional figure, Fairfax County Public Schools, “WABE Guide 2008,” Washington Area Board of Education, Novem- ber 2007, http://www.fcps.edu/fs/budget/wabe/2008.pdf.";

One final point:
And about the ‘school’ part of lotto money.....maybe, MAYBE that’s 20% of receipts gets to the schools.

Worth looking into for your own school districts. Also, look into what percentage of people living in your school districts pay taxes that go to your schools but have no one attending the schools. That’s an eye-opener.

Long story short: the money siphoned off the top is absofrickinglutely amazing.
