New Poll Shows Obama Approval Slips to Historic Low (36%)
The Hill ^ | Saturday, September 24, 2011 | Justin Sink

President Barack Obama's approval ratings have fallen to a new low, with only 36 percent of Americans saying that they approve of the way he is handling his job overall, according to a new poll from the Economist/YouGov. A majority of Americans - 56 percent - disapprove of the president's performance.

Even more concerning for the president may be the news that top Republican candidates have moved within striking distance in head-to-head matchups. Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney trails Obama by just a 44 percent to 43 percent margin, while Texas governor Rick Perry trails 46 percent to 42 percent.

As has been the case in previous polls showing the president's slipping approval, Americans seem frustrated primarily in a souring economy. Only 30 percent of Americans strongly or somewhat approve of the president's handling of the issue. 50 percent of Americans believe that the policies of the Obama Administration have hurt the economy, and 53 percent say that they have hurt the middle class.

The Economist/YouGov poll surveyed 1000 respondents with a margin of error of 3.7 percent.

This is likely the most accurate reflection I’ve seen. I suspect there are those who disapprove but their “white guilt” won’t allow them to publicly acknowledge such to a pollster.

Actually, Obama security equals that of Adolf Hitler who had 55,000 SS troops guarding & protecting him.. Obama is a tyrant and dictator in the same vein as Adolf Hitler. I will not call Obama another Hitler, but he is certainly in the same league league with him as the third Anti-Christ (Obama by the way is truly an African Muslim and worshipper of “his” “Muslim Brotherhood”, the murderers of thousands of African Black Christians!!!). I suggest you good folks tune in to the History or Military cable channels and catch the documentary “Hitler’s Bodyguards”!!! The parallel between Obama & Hitler is remarkable!!! The threat to Hitler did not come from England or the USA, or other allies, it did not come from the German people except in few cases. The majority of threats, overwhelmingly came from the German military high command, who knew early on that Hitler was insane and....left to his mantra would certainly destroy Germany and millions of her people, which, Hitler, in fact did!!! Americans, take heed, you are in harms ways in the many fashions of Barack Hussein Obama. I think it time you woke up to reality. When the German people finally woke up, it was far too late and millions from many nations, including Germany suffered, were tortured and killed because of Adolf Hitler!!! Food for thought, folks!!!

If he’s at 36% heading into another recession like they are calling it this morning, he’ll quit soon, i can see him getting out of the kitchen.

36% is still way too high. I’m really surprised how many people enjoy paying $3.60 for a gallon of gasoline. There are too many people living in this country who have lost their grip on reality.

Believe it or not GW Bush had a 22% approval rating from Gallup just prior to leaving office.

Thanks to a relentless, biased press. I wonder where Obama’s numbers would be if he didn't have the propagandists in the media supporting him, twisting stories around and refusing to air or reluctantly covering bad news about him?

Given that Bush had all the opposite of this, it's a wonder Obama is actually as low as 36%.

I am delighted, though. As more people see through Obama, the same folks see through the media. May they both go down together, forever!

I believe we may have reached the long-awaited tipping point where—all other issues aside—it is no longer “cool” to support Barack Obama. When/if that is happening, Obama stands to lose a large chunk of his most moronic supporters.

“If he’s at 36% heading into another recession like they are calling it this morning, he’ll quit soon, i can see him getting out of the kitchen.”

He is still a messiah to Big Media, and textbooks were being rewritten for him before the election.

IMO, I just can’t see a black power racist who thinks as highly of himself as he does leaving the country to a white plagiarist moron.

That’s why Biden is VP.

The part of that story that says most americans trust the democrats over republicans to create jobs is truly insane!

That's really disturbing. Every time I read one of these stories about Obama's poll numbers, just as I'm starting to think people are wising up I see the part about how they trust Democrats over Republicans on economic issues. We are always at risk of having a fraudulent slimeball entering the White House with our deeply uninformed American Idol electorate.

I don’t think this poll artificially inflates the approval of Obama. There really are that many people that don’t understand how he has destroyed this country from foreign policy to economics to culture, to the military, to intelligence, to the environment to everything else. They don’t understand how anything works, to they still believe what they believe.

The sadness of this poll is that so many approve of this destructive force, and all in his administration who view their role in life as taking from some to give to themselves, rather than producing something of their own.

herman cain is sending a message to blacks that it is ok to be black and a conservative repub. The 92% is falling into the low 80’s/high 70’s. Dunham is nowhere near black as Herman.

Not really. The Democrats are going to ride the coattails of "Clinton's economy" and all of the jobs "he created" for as long as they can.

And I understand that the tech boom, the advent of Ecommerce, Y2K, and all of the (temporary) tech jobs they created would have happened regardless of who was in the White House. You don't need to tell me about it. We need to tell the Independents and undecideds.

This is why Christie is floating the trial balloon...the GOP nom (Romney | Perry | Palin | Christie) is the next President; Bobo doesn't want the job without a compliant Congress, he saw the Writing on the Wall in 2010; I've been saying this for 16 months now and FReepers are starting to get their mind around the inevitability.

Ironically, I actually participated in this poll. I do YouGov polls about once a week, via the Internet. Naturally, I gave Obama low ratings, except for the question about my expectations of Obama. I’d say he’s met my expectations—which were extremely low. I expected him to be as bad as Carter, or worse. I’d say the Republican Congress has exceeded my expectations in their resistance to his programs.

Biden may be a rather dull tool, but he is a realist and is willing to listen to his backers, which are not quite the same bunch as backed Obama. Biden won’t win an election next year either, but if Biden takes over from Obama before the end of 2011 the country could be a great deal better off.

Valerie Jarrett would be out for one thing.

On the really critical issues the President can quickly act on - Biden as President would be much more willing to pull back the regulatory agencies and take some of the economic pressure off, and very likely won’t be such a roadblock on the budget compromise in 2012.
