Herman Cain upsets Rick Perry in Florida straw poll

In a severe embarrassment for the Republican presidential frontrunner, businessman Herman Cain tripped up Gov. Rick Perry in a straw ballot of Florida Republican activists Saturday.

The vote has no bearing on the choice of a 2012 nominee but, along with recent campaign events, is likely to increase the chances that the Republican presidential contest will tighten. It comes on the heels of a poor performance by Perry in a Florida debate Thursday night that disappointed conservatives, including delegates who came to Orlando expecting to back the Texas governor.

Cain received 37% of the vote, more than twice as many as Perry, who made by far the most extensive effort, but finished a distant second with 15%. He barely edged out Mitt Romney, who did not compete here, at 14%.

LOL, great title - it makes it sound like Herman Cain said something to make Rick Perry burst into tears.

How does this effect the rest of the candidates?

Cain needs to watch his back.

There’s a whole faction of the left who can’t afford to let him be the harbinger of the fact that conservatives are the inclusive ones. The LIBS are the racists. Barack, Al and Jesse can’t let the curtain be raised on their farcical narrative that keeps Black America on the plantation. His success serves as proof that middle America’s vitriol against Ø is 100% ideology—not skin color.

Just having Herman Cain in the debates thus far is a testament to the foolishness of the race-baiters. But him WINNING this poll is a game-changer.

I can throw my support behind Herman Cain without hesitation.

One thing it shows is the difference between when conservatives actually vote and a poll taken by the media.

How do straw poll results affect anything really?

Of the people now in the race, Cain is my Number One. Bachmann is my Number Two. Perry? I could hold my nose and vote for him, but I'm not sure I can sustain that view.

I'm still hoping Sarah jumps in.

Straw polls are nice, but they rarely indicate the winner in primaries. I hope this changes.

I’d walk my neighborhood to pass out Cain flyers if he was the nominee.

I wouldn’t do more than punch a chad for “Open Borders” Perry.

Perhaps, if nothing else, it may show that Cain would make an effective vice presidential candidate. And might split the black vote.

Plus Herman Cain sounds better than Barak Hussein Obama.

No doubt, perry has that old, “tracks of my tears” song cranked up and is drinking a 25 cent black label beer.

“How does this effect the rest of the candidates?”

Perry should do what Pawlenty did when he lost the Iowa straw poll to Michele Bachmann.

And might split the black vote.

LOL. Don't bet on that. He talks self reliance. That is a big turd in the punch bowl for black Dems.
