Illegal Mexicans? I wouldn’t go that far. Being Governor of Texas for a decade under the GOP banner had to have included a lot of support from conservative, GOP, US citizens.
I think Cains win in the Florida straw poll is the result of a protest vote. Republicans in Florida seem to be fed up with Romney and Perry. They are giving Perry a vote of no confidence, but at the same time they aren't willing to make Romney the beneficiary of that dynamic. But judging from Bachmanns 1% in the straw poll, and factoring in the performance of the other conservatives in the race (such as Santorums 10% and Gingrichs 8% results), we know that conservatism alone wasnt the only motivating force present in the results. By that standard, Bachmanns 1% showing is beyond pitiful.
Cains win today tell us more about an angry GOP base that isnt gonna take it anymore. No more Obama-like-talk or the so-called 'compassionate conservatism.' Republicans are hungry for problem solving candidates with practical solutions based on conservative principles, and neither Romney-the-flip-flopper nor Perry-the-big-heart can deliver.
