Slippery slope for ‘slick’ Rick
Boston Herald ^ | 9/25/11 | Howie Carr

Posted on 09/24/2011 9:51:38 PM PDT by raccoonradio

I never thought Rick Perry was going to be the next Ronald Reagan. But who knew he’d turn out to be the next Mumbles Menino?

At least the governor of Texas picked the right place to turn into a pumpkin — Orlando, home of Disney World.

That GOP debate Thursday night was a political NASCAR race. All the fans got what they came for — a massive crack-up on the far turn. Remember two weeks ago when everyone said Rick Perry was ready for prime time. It turned out to be a “monstrous lie,” to coin a phrase.

Here is Gov. Perry, unleashing his roundhouse on Mitt Romney: “I think Americans just don’t know sometimes which Mitt Romney they’re dealing with. Is it the Mitt Romney that was on the side of against the Second Amendment before he was for the Second Amendment?”

Did I say Mumbles Menino? This is sounding like Ted Kennedy after a long car ride.

“Was was it before he was before the social programs, um, from the standpoint of he was for, uh, standing for Roe versus Wade before he was against vers — Roe versus Wade?”

Perry went to Texas A&M. Fill in your own Aggie joke here.

“Uh, who, uh, he was for Race to the Top, uh, he’s for Obamacare and now he’s against it.”

The next morning Perry was reduced to telling an audience, “It’s not who’s the slickest candidate or the smoothest debater.” Or, as Mumbles puts it, “I’m not a fancy talker.”

Perry has a glass jaw. How about when Rick Santorum was hectoring him about whether Texas was succeeding in keeping illegal aliens out? Perry stumbled, swallowed, and finally said the Lone Star State was “putting the aviation assets on the ground.”

That does a lot of good, I’m sure.

Who would have thought that Gov. Aggie would have more problems with immigration that Mitt is having with Romneycare? The difference is, Obomneycare, as Tim Pawlenty used to call it, doesn’t really start destroying health care until 2013. An illegal alien could kill you today — a clear and present danger.

So when Perry haughtily said that anyone who opposes granting in-state (read: free) tuition to illegal aliens “doesn’t have a heart” — well, I think we have a problem, Houston.

What is it with these Democrats-turned-Republicans from Texas? They all seem to have such fine pedigrees. John Connolly in 1980, spending $13 million to win one delegate. Phil Gramm, another total washout, in 1996. And now Perry, the governor with a heart — for illegal aliens.

Too bad for us here at the Herald? How many front pages and exclusives did we waste on this guy? “Deep in the Heart of Taxes” — that was a great headline. And now it’s all for naught.

Aww, Perry’s just getting misconscrewed, and misunderestimated. Pretty much anybody could tell what he was trying to say. We need bigger issues than this.

In the night, I hear ‘em talk,
the coldest story ever told
Somewhere far along this road, Perry lost his soul to a party so heartless..
How could we be so heartless?
Oh.. How could the GOP be so heartless?

Ricky LaRaza has been unimpressive, to say the least. And, to think some were at times embarrassed by Dubya’s vocabulary. Ricky LaRaza makes Dubya sound like William F. Buckley.

Mumbles Menino? LOLOLOLOLOL

He has that line coming but, sometimes you program your head wrong, like focusing on not flubbing your lines and then guess what? Yuh flub yer lines.

Happened to me the other day and I was pretty dang’d mad about it too. 5 frickin lines! I’ve memorized speeches that are several hundred lines and never flubbed them.

I was focuses on not messing up and made that the priority. I still messed up and it won’t happen next time.

I’ll bet he focuses on delivering lines crisply, being creative in ridicule and wowing his audience like he knows he can and they’ll love his next performance.

You guys can flame Rick, but I would like to keep him as Governor of TX.

He has taken some real bone headed positions before, but he has a lot of things right.

Is he a phoney? Like most POLs he is on some issues.

Does he speak his mind directly(at times not polished)? Yes, Texans are noted for that. hee hee hee

Would he make a good President? not sure.

In spite of all, he has been a pretty good governor.

Maybe he was overprogrammed by his handlers and they focused on him getting some good lines out—and he goes to say one thing then launches into another.

A very good example is when a now-deceased Senator from Mass.
was asked what he thought about a rising Senator from Illinois whose name sounded like that of a terrorist:

“There you go. Why don’t we ask Osama bin La- er, Osama
Obama. Obama. Because, er, because er he won by er such
a large amount.”

Then again we can blame wetbrain for that one.

Boston Mayor Tom “Mumbles” Menino gets in trouble because sometimes he skips over words and he has a tongue too big for his mouth.

I know what you’re talking about! I remember a pastor I heard decades ago preaching about Jesus’ miracles and he got to the one about the woman with a “bloody flux”. Yeah, you guessed it. Right in front of 2000 people the phrase he had practiced over and over....

On Friday, Rick Perry was saying "It's not who's the smoothest debater"

On Sunday, Rick Perry will be saying "It's not who wins the Florida straw poll."

In a few more months, Rick Perry will be saying "It's not who wins the Iowa Caucus."

And I thought Mitt Romney was a laughingstock. Rick Perry is to Mitt Romney what Barack Obama is to Jimmy Carter.

He should be mad at himself privately but publicly he should laugh it off, admit he flubbed and say it happens.

Carr isn’t on my radar screen.

Did a quick search and found that...is this true, honestly and no dumb dumb spin, please...did he accuse Deval Patrick of giving illegal aliens free tuition?

Apparently, if what I read was correct, he equated in state tuition rates with paying no tuition at all for college, actually using the words “free tuition” for illegal aliens.

Hey, I’m no fan of OJ’s expert witness, as he helped a guilty as sin murderer get off, but as the guy said, “something wrong here”.

Reminds me a lot of what’s wrong on Free Republic on discussion threads about candidates. The language chosen can be appallingly distorted and deliberately, delusionally incendiary.

If this is true of Mr. Carr, I don’t accept the source of this “clever” diatribe. Of course it’s his opinion and he has a free speech right, but people who live in such a glass house as this should really not be throwing stones.

The difference is, Obomneycare, as Tim Pawlenty used to call it, doesn’t really start destroying health care until 2013.

Actually, it's destroying wealth right now, because there is less than 100% certainty it will be deep-sixed in 2013. But that wealth-destroying effect also increases the probability of a GOP win in 2012 and Obamacare destruction in 2013.
