Slippery slope for ‘slick’ Rick
Boston Herald ^ | 9/25/11 | Howie Carr

I never thought Rick Perry was going to be the next Ronald Reagan. But who knew he’d turn out to be the next Mumbles Menino?

At least the governor of Texas picked the right place to turn into a pumpkin — Orlando, home of Disney World.

That GOP debate Thursday night was a political NASCAR race. All the fans got what they came for — a massive crack-up on the far turn. Remember two weeks ago when everyone said Rick Perry was ready for prime time. It turned out to be a “monstrous lie,” to coin a phrase.

Here is Gov. Perry, unleashing his roundhouse on Mitt Romney: “I think Americans just don’t know sometimes which Mitt Romney they’re dealing with. Is it the Mitt Romney that was on the side of against the Second Amendment before he was for the Second Amendment?”

Did I say Mumbles Menino? This is sounding like Ted Kennedy after a long car ride.

“Was was it before he was before the social programs, um, from the standpoint of he was for, uh, standing for Roe versus Wade before he was against vers — Roe versus Wade?”

Perry went to Texas A&M. Fill in your own Aggie joke here.

“Uh, who, uh, he was for Race to the Top, uh, he’s for Obamacare and now he’s against it.”

The next morning Perry was reduced to telling an audience, “It’s not who’s the slickest candidate or the smoothest debater.” Or, as Mumbles puts it, “I’m not a fancy talker.”

Perry has a glass jaw. How about when Rick Santorum was hectoring him about whether Texas was succeeding in keeping illegal aliens out? Perry stumbled, swallowed, and finally said the Lone Star State was “putting the aviation assets on the ground.”

That does a lot of good, I’m sure.

Who would have thought that Gov. Aggie would have more problems with immigration that Mitt is having with Romneycare? The difference is, Obomneycare, as Tim Pawlenty used to call it, doesn’t really start destroying health care until 2013. An illegal alien could kill you today — a clear and present danger.

So when Perry haughtily said that anyone who opposes granting in-state (read: free) tuition to illegal aliens “doesn’t have a heart” — well, I think we have a problem, Houston.

What is it with these Democrats-turned-Republicans from Texas? They all seem to have such fine pedigrees. John Connolly in 1980, spending $13 million to win one delegate. Phil Gramm, another total washout, in 1996. And now Perry, the governor with a heart — for illegal aliens.

Too bad for us here at the Herald? How many front pages and exclusives did we waste on this guy? “Deep in the Heart of Taxes” — that was a great headline. And now it’s all for naught.

Less than 5 months ago, I heard Rick interviewed by Mark Davis on WBAP in Ft. Worth. Mark asked him directly if he would run for President and Rick responded that he was not interested in running for President because he had the best job in the world, governor of the state of Texas.

He was asked several times in several ways by Mark Davis and in each case he said flatly NO..

About 3 months ago I talked with one of Rick’s closest friends (from childhood) and asked him the same question. Is Rick going to run for President? I reminded him of the WBAP interview. He told me then that Rick would only run for president if he was asked to run by the National Republican “leadership”. I am convinced that in fact happened. Even the current Republican “leadership” understands what is at stake. A Romney nomination will be the end of the Party. It would go away like the Whiggs.

We are at a critical point in the nations history. It is imperative that we destroy the Leftist threat to the nation. That cannot be done without shrinking the Federal Government to a point it is almost unrecognisable. By closing entire Departments and moving those functions back to the state is the only solution. Anything less leaves the Leftists in place in DC even if we win all the elected positions. If we close the departments and they will go too.

It is TIME to DownSize DC! There is no other option to stop this insanity.

Whoever can accomplish this, must be elected and supported.

If you watch Rick Perry on TV with the sound down, he has a certain resemblance to Ronaldo Magnus. But that’s where the resemblance ends.

Thanks for the heads-up. That one is from Getty so we’d better remove it.

Same old song on new Americans

Must be nice to have two mansions, state police drivers and millions in the bank from the corporations you walked away from. It must be easy for Gov. Deval Patrick to ignore the carnage that the illegal aliens he supports so fervently are unleashing on the commonwealth.

Another day, another person killed in Massachusetts by an illegal alien.

But Deval Patrick remains cool. Nothing to see here, folks, move along.

“It’s horrible,” he said of the latest murder, in Marshfield of all places, allegedly by a Brazilian using a visa number issued to a Kuwaiti woman. “But it’s horrible on its own.”

What’s horrible is that this Third World freeloader didn’t have to be here. He could have been thrown out of this country months ago. But Deval wouldn’t hear of it.

“I think we need to be careful,” Deval was saying yesterday, “not to paint (with) too broad a brush.”

Deval was instructing his coat-holders in the media, try not to mention that he’s an illegal alien, or at least bury it in the 10th paragraph. Don’t list the illegals’ toll — the dreadful murders in Brockton; or the dead motorcyclist in Milford; or the six-time drunken driver, deported three times, arrested over the weekend in Boxboro; or Uncle Omar’s court appearance tomorrow.

And if you must mention that the suspected stabber is a ... new American, then by all means do what the Globe so often does on its Web site. Don’t allow any of the readers to comment on any story where somebody gets killed by an . . . undocumented worker. You know, these posters have no respect for our wonderful governor. Just last week, when he got caught driving during don’t-drive week, some blue-collar wretch scribbled on a message board, “He was probably just driving an illegal to the welfare office.”

And pay no attention to all these bills that are being introduced on Beacon Hill to try to stop the guest workers’ reign of terror.

“I’m not interested in legislation that’s just about a headline,” Deval explained, with some exasperation.

Headlines, Governor? The one I saw yesterday said, “Suspect likely here illegally.” It’s what you might call a standing headline, whether it’s cocaine dealing or drive-bys or hit-and-run driving.

Secure Communities? Just a publicity stunt, Deval scoffed.

I know, they’re only committing the crimes Americans don’t want to commit. I’m sure this Brazilian was planning to marry his “fiancee,” just before he stabbed her to death. He was turning his life around.

Don’t bother these Democrats with any of the messy details about what this country is becoming. In Vermont, Gov. Peter Shumlin told his cops last week to “look the other way as much as we can.”

But it gets harder and harder to look the other way, with all the bodies in the road.
