PICKET: Freed American hikers thank Hugo Chavez, Noam Chomsky, Cindy Sheehan
Washington Times Water Cooler ^ | 9/25/11 | Kerry Picket

Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal, the now freed American hikers who were held in an Iranian prison after being convicted for espionage, appeared before cameras and reporters in New York on Sunday and gave prepared statements about their detentions in Iran.

Bauer, a freelance journalist, along with Sarah Shourd, a teacher and women’s rights activist, and Fattal, an environmentalist, were arrested July 31, 2009 while hiking in Iraqi Kurdistan. Shourd was released last year. Bauer's and Fattal's remarks were critical of American foreign policy towards Iran as well as the Iranian government's treatment of it's own people.

"The only explanation for our prolonged detention is the 32 years of mutual hostility between American and Iran. The irony is Sarah Josh and I oppose U.S. policies towards Iran which perpetuate this hostility. We were convicted of espionage, because we are American," said Bauer. He continued, "It’s that simple. No evidence was ever presented against us. That it because there is no evidence and because we are completely innocent."

Three useless parasites.

Worse than useless: active traitors subverting freedom.

Who paid their ransom?

The ABC news report completely left all this out of their copy. Made these two clowns sound like all American patriots.

Oddly enough, they received far better treatment than a female Canadian journalist who died in Iranian custody a few years back.

Wonder why that is?

"Who posted the $1 million bail? Why?"

Probably some of the Dept. of Energy grant money. No leftist cause left behind!

Don't know which one it was, but when they stepped off the plane, one of them starting b*tching about the plight of political prisoners in Iran ...... and the US!
Had I been there, he would have wished he was back in Iran. Ungrateful commie-scumbags.

I could see a $50,000 book deal, not a million. It would perforce be pretty lame. Maybe Hugo Chavez might write a foreword for the book and autograph collectors’ copies.

I have no idea why Iran should be so snippy at America. Jimmy Carter toppled the clerics’ arch enemy, the Shah. There shouldn’t have even been a hostage crisis, they should have sent the hostages back with a “thank you Jimmy, now leave us alone.” These are not reasoning people, these are irrational haters.

Seems to me that it’s quite possible they intentionally got “caught” hiking in dangerous territory, so that ultimately, they could make a big “splash” across the pages of the international media...so as to make some sort of “statement.” Such fools! Utter fools! As someone else has said...SEND-THEM-BACK!

Bauer : "In prison, every time we complained about our conditions, the guards would immediately remind us of comparable conditions at Guantanamo bay."

Dollars to donuts the Iranians gave them Bibles and communion, too. [snark]

Shane Bauer: "We do not believe such human rights violations on the part of our government justify what has been done to us. Not for a moment. However we do believe these actions on the part of the U.S. provide an excuse for other governments, including the government of Iran to act in kind," Bauer explained.

"In kind"?

If his treatment was comparable to Guantanamo, then he had gourmet, balanced meals and was given every accomodation for his religious needs. And visitors, and recreation time outside, and lawyers...

You just know this little $#!^ is going to be out there with the hairy-armpit Code Pinko womyn in a few weeks protesting the wars in...oh, wait. A democrat is president. Never mind.

I knew they were a bunch of lowlife, commie ‘RATS. They didn’t go to Iran to go “hiking”. They went over there hoping to get a shot at kissing Ahmadinejad’s @$$.
