Automatic cuts to defense spending could leave the Pentagon with its lowest share of the federal budget since before World War II, shrinking the Army and Marine Corps by some 150,000 troops and leaving fewer warships and combat aircraft to project U.S. power around the world, according to an analysis prepared for House Armed Services Committee Republicans.
The analysis, distributed Friday as part of panel Chairman Buck McKeon’s efforts to lobby against deeper defense cuts by the deficit-reduction supercommittee, paints a dire picture of a “hollow force” unable to meet national security needs and forced to return to a draft to fill its ranks.

In 1951, after boot-camp, I was assigned a ship out of Norfolk VA. The Old Hands on the ship said before the Korean War broke out, the lack of funds meant that the ship could not leave the dock up for months and that the ship’s bottom was resting on coffee grounds.
With the changes wrought by the Obama Administration the military will be made up of gays, blacks, women and single mothers.

If a member of Congress could could actually suggest that Guam could tip over into the ocean if too many US troops were stationed on it, then I predict here and now that we will soon hear calls to merge the Army and the Marines..

So what? What about the lack of armot piercing ammo for the artillery to fight off the hundreds of soviet tanks our troops were facing? What about the lack of 3.5 rocket launchers that could knock out these tanks? There were non in Korea and it was several months before we got any.
When they sent the marines into Korea they had to recall many reservists, which was good because maqny of them were WWII vets. The bad part was that many of the reservists were brand new, so new that they had not been to basic training yet. They got their combat expierience by OJT. Many of them were killed because of this.
truman screwed the goat as far as our military was concerned and he killed thousands of them before it was straightened out.
That is ok. Obama wants a civilian defense force that is as well funded and armed as the military. No worries! (sarc)
I wonder how we managed to live through the Cold War without all the gizmo's and do-dads I see today.
