Yesterday, the Turkish media reported, “Turkey … agreed with the US on a deal involving the transfer of US-engineered unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) that could prove crucial in combating terrorism.” The Predator drones, expected to be delivered in June 2012, are supposed to help the Turks combat terrorists, which in Ankara’s narrow definition means the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) crossing into Turkey from the Iraq border.
The Predators, said Turkish defense minister İsmet Yilmaz, “are UAVs with better qualities and features than the [Israeli-made] Herons.” Ankara, the report explains, was “disappointed by Israel's failure to return six Herons it had sent to the country for maintenance.”

Unfortunately this is the reality, period. When we boycotted Pakistan the French raced in and sold their stuff. The Germans have Iran as one of their biggest trading partners. Austrian 50 cals to Iran and then Iraq... Somehow post 1991 mines made in Italy were in Iraq. France had refurbished Roland air defense missiles they sold the Saddam regime, some delivered only MONTHS before the invasion.
With the end of the Cold War came a break in a common unified security policy towards the remaining threats and especially when economic interests are involved it has become a complete free frawl. Money talks, politicians worry about self preservation, big business has a lot of clout, these stories are non-issues in today's media, and many nations/people have no perceived threat to self. So you see an entirely reckless behavior.
