Yesterday, the Turkish media reported, Turkey agreed with the US on a deal involving the transfer of US-engineered unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) that could prove crucial in combating terrorism. The Predator drones, expected to be delivered in June 2012, are supposed to help the Turks combat terrorists, which in Ankaras narrow definition means the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) crossing into Turkey from the Iraq border.
The Predators, said Turkish defense minister İsmet Yilmaz, are UAVs with better qualities and features than the [Israeli-made] Herons. Ankara, the report explains, was disappointed by Israel's failure to return six Herons it had sent to the country for maintenance.

turkey drones are sort of like gizzards I think...
So here’s a replacement picture of a turkey and a turkey drone... I see the turkey and his drone..What is the fat bird doing in the middle? Laying eggs for Biden?
Wait...just last week I read here on FR that Turkey is about to sell their domestically developed drones to Egypt (or one of those other Arab countries). So they don’t trust in their home-made tech for their own use?
I hate to be a nag, but I remember many Freepers telling me, we can’t stand up to Turkey, “because we need them.” Many Freepers seem to feel we should do whatever Turkey wants.
Which is which?
Thanks mojito.
Can’t help but wonder why Turkey is such an important ally these days. Perhaps they’re not as awful as Pakistan, but...
This whole thread would have been a lot shorter if the author of the article had titled it "Obama sold drones to Turkey".
But it wouldn't have been as funny.....even though it is a serious and stupid thing he did (not to mention a slap in the face of Israel who is the only true democracy in the Mideast).
But the problem is, not that they are an important ally, but that they are a former ally that has become an Islamist enemy.
We had to sell them the drones or Turkey would conduct cross-border raids into Iraq against the Kurdish separatists.
Easy, peasy. It looks like a turkey and can’t fly.
A black guy, a white guy, a Christian, a Muslim, a Communist and a turkey walk into a bar.
The bartender says: “What can I get you, Mr. President?”
