The biggest mischaracterization of Perry's position has been on immigration. The fact that he has more confidence in putting "boots on the ground" along the border, instead of relying on a fence that can be climbed over or tunneled under where there is no one around, is a logistical judgment, not a question of being against border control.
Texas Rangers already have been put along the border to guard the places where the federal government has failed to guard it. Former Sen. Rick Santorum's sound-bite attempts to paint Perry as soft on border control have apparently been politically successful, judging by polls.
But his repeated interrupting of Perry's presentation of his case during the recent debate is the kind of cheap political trick that contributes nothing to public understanding and much to public misunderstanding.
I have far more questions about those who would blow this error up into something that it is not. Error-free leaders don't exist — and we don't want to end up settling for a warm body.
Ultimately, this is not about Perry. It is about a process that can destroy any potential leader, even when the country needs a new leader with a character that the "gotcha" attackers demonstrate they do not have.

I’m pretty sure that Americans tried to defend the border in Arizona. Didn’t the federal government goons insist that they knock it off? Put them on the terrorist watch list for defending the border or something like that?
States cannot deport illegals. Texas has spent 500 million dollars doing the job that the federal government refuses to do. Rick Perry has fought against sanctuary cities.
Would he meet your definition of a worthy candidate if Rick Perry were to go down to the border and shoot over the heads of a couple of them sneaking across the border?
The in state tuition was overwhelmingly passed by the state legislature. If Rick Perry didn’t sign the bill, I’m sure they could over ride his veto. Yes? Correct me if I’m wrong. The people against Perry for immigration should vent their anger at the state legislature in my opinion.

Clarity is a known troll who knows he posted a fraction of what she said on the subject. This has been hammered into the ground and he/she keeps bring it up as ‘the whole truth’ when it’s rather selective.

We need to remember that the entire voting population doesn’t consist of freepers.
My rule of thumb is the voting population seems to evenly consist of 1/3 conservatives, 1/3 liberals and 1/3 that doesn’t really have a firm grasp of what they believe or they have a mash up of liberal and conservative beliefs.
Getting that 1/3 in the middle is critical to winning.
It’s still early in the process. If you detest Perry, I suppose it is irrelevant what you have to say about the man. Governing often means making decision where you are damned if you do and damned if you don’t. You won’t please everyone. If you tried, you would appear to be flip flopping all of the time.

I was stunned by Perrys inability to articulate his position, and there is no doubt that the heartless comment gave him an unnecessary self inflicted wound.
BUT he has defined the debate one more time.

I think Santorumn appeared petty and nasty when he smelled blood in the last debate, and I think he did himself great harm.
We will see how Perry handles the Oct 5 debate, but one thing is certain.
He has been defining the debate since he brought up SS in the first debate.

I hate what is happening, but the simple truth is, until we get someone in the whitehouse who will enforce the laws this problem will continue.
