I'm an American and I support the concept of freedom.
For example, I proudly support the freedom to not have to look at naked people. And I'd like the freedom to go to one of my favorite cities without having to look at naked people. And I really support the freedom of seating one of my kids at a restaurant table where I'm relatively sure a naked person wasn't just sitting.
San Francisco Supervisor Scott Wiener -- make your own joke and please move on -- has proposed an ordinance banning naked people sitting in restaurants and in public places without a proper seat cover. Which has the nudists up in arms. At least, I think they're up in arms, I would turn away before I actually saw their arms.
Nakedness is legal in San Francisco as long as the nudists in question aren't bothering anyone else. Which, come to think about it, is probably impossible. Ultra-liberals can argue all they want about the human body being beautiful and being an expression of nature. That's all well and good until some sweaty middle-aged hairy guy who lives on Big Macs physically bumps into me on the street. I already have enough fodder for nightmares.
But having the right to look silly is one thing; a person's hygiene is another. Let's be fair. You wear pants when you sit down, and I'll make my daughter wear her diaper.
