Are more folks fed up, and fighting back against criminals?

Three times in the past week, would-be victims of crime have fought back in St. Louis.

Last Friday, a housesitter shot and killed a burglar in the Fox Park Neighborhood. On Monday, a homeowner shot and killed an intruder in the city's West End neighborhood.

And early today -- in a story that is still developing -- police said a man trying to rob a group of people was killed when one of his intended victims pulled a gun and shot him. That happened in the Jeff Vanderlou neighborhood.

Can't have a cowed, obsequious population with all this self-defense going on. The authorities must do something about it.

if Charles Bronson were still alive he’d have enough work to be on the set 300 days per year

Fantastic! The only justice achieved is when the victim kills the criminal. Justice is never achieved by our totally worthless criminal friendly government.

perhaps there are more people resorting to criminal action since the economy has no jobs.

Back to Jean Valjean stealing a loaf of bread to feed his family

No, and I hate to hear you say that. It is my experience that folks would rather work. but with no jobs, they still have mouths to feed.

More good people are armed, more crooks die: I love a happy ending!

Practice and be ready.

“It is my experience that folks would rather work. but with no jobs, they still have mouths to feed.”

Oh, really? Having been held up at gunpoint three times, by a very narrow, urban demographic, my experience is that it’s easier to simply take from others by force than engage in honest work.

It’s compounded by a increased sense of entitlement when the attorney general states that he won’t prosecute “his people”. Witness the recent uptick in flash mob robberies, mob beatings (only of whites), and flash lootings.

You can NEVER successfully delegate responsibility for personal safety to anyone but yourself. All the police can do these days is write the report and call the coroner.

And the normal, law-abiding citizen is sick and tired of it, and is taking appropriate action. Bravo!

My brother and my son were held up at gunpoint. It is horrible. And I do approve of concealed carry and knowing how to handle a weapon for your own security. I was just posing a question as to whether the incidence of armed criminal action has increased due to desperation of the poor, that’s all. No criticism of defending oneself—that is to me, a fundamental human right.

Jean Valjean wasn't threatening anybody’s life with a gun or knife.

Today's criminals don't have to rob to feed their families, that they can do with free food stamps. They don't have to steal to pay their rent, that they can get for free from the government. I suppose we could dramatically reduce violent crime in the USA by making drugs free, for that is what motivates most crime in the US.

Do I feel sorry for some poor bloke that steals in order to support a habit that he can't kick? In a word no. Al least I don't feel sorry enough for him not to shoot to kill when he attempts to rob me with a deadly weapon.

I am so glad that most states laws have changed to make it easier for private citizens to carry a concealed weapon. I carry, I encourage all to carry and carry ALL the time.

I spend an awful lot of time in the west end and the Central West End.

What the writer doesn’t say is what the police say to the would-be victims. The city cops are pretty cool, but....

These hold up artists are holding you up for drug money.

Not to feed their families.
