Sarah Palin told Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren this week that she was worried that the presidency could prove to be “too shackling” for her maverick style and somehow limit her.
Wednesday night, Jon Stewart took aim at her claims on "The Daily Show."
“The biggest contemplation piece in your process is that becoming the president would diminish your power?” Stewart asked. “You’d be the f***ing president! You would be the commander-in-chief of history’s greatest fighting force. What do you mean? What possibly do you mean? And don’t misunderstand, I am not trying to talk you into running. It is just, by most people’s standards, the presidency is one of the higher level positions we have.”
Stewart added: “So here’s the thing, you can have a colorful bus and drive to early primary states or you can go around telling people what you would do if you were president. But when you put those two together, there’s really only two possibilities: you are either running for president of the United States or you are a crazy person.”

Would you prefer a traditional, Mitt “Dole” Romney candidate who will run a conventional campaign and allow the liberal media to decide who wins and who loses?
She isn’t running, YET....
Neither was Ronald Reagan when he was making similar remarks about Phil Crane and Bob Dole in the fall of 1979.
And remember, George Bush I won Iowa and PR BEFORE Reagan took Iowa.

I completely agree, it’s getting tiresome.
If you’re sooooo over her, then why do you keep camping out in Palin threads? Seems you could find better things to do with your time.
That is only true if first, you assume that Sarah Palin is the only person in the world to hold her particular worldview, and therefore the only person who would sign bills and push ideas that would free up our country.
And second, if you think that having one president who would do 5% more than the next guy who could win the office is better than having 20 new house seats voting for your specific agenda, and 5 new senate seats pushing your ideas.
Given the choice, it might well be more empowering to endorse a presidential candidate who agrees with you 95%, and then go find 5 senate races and 20 house races, find candidates who are with you 100%, and get THEM elected.
As others have pointed out, even having congressional majorities doesn’t get the president’s proposals enacted. You need people in congress who support your vision.
Palin could also be deciding whether she can actually WIN the presidency while pushing everything she wants; but I’m certain she could get 25 congresssional seats elected that agreed with her, which would be a powerful statement.
Jon Stewart is a comedian. The idea that what Palin means by “power” is to control the armed forces is absurd.
Palin has actually been pretty consistent, regarding both ‘titles’ and the inherently corrupting tendencies of government power. It’s been a long-standing theme of hers, and represents how she’s practically an “anti-politician” politician at heart. There’s an incongruity with her outlook and the typical establishment political power mindset, to put it mildly, and she does tend to put the latter into a bit of a tizzy.
I think she’s running.

There’s only one mindset that can possibly think of Clinton as having “stood tall” during those days.
“She ain’t crazy.”
But poor widdle jon-boy. She drives him there. Gotta’ love it.

To avoid the circus of the media and the way they handle debates is the best thing a candidate could do. It shows she takes the American people seriously, that she doesn’t want to subject us to the media’s idiocy.
The debates are a ridiculous game. You take them seriously, given how they’re run? You take the debates seriously?
Governor Palin speaks directly to the people, this is what she’s been doing and it’s what she’ll keep doing. To go around the media is both morally right and intellectually brilliant.

Jon Stewart telling Sarah Palin she can’t have it both ways. This from the guy who inspired the expression “clown nose off, clown nose on” for his tendency to lecture political commentators seriously, then when they want to discuss his comments seriously, retreat to “Hey, I work for Comedy Central”. I love irony.

You have got to be kidding me. You really believe this? As for your tagline about her not being for sale???? She did Sarah Palin's Alaska for free? She donated all of her royalties from her books to charity? She always refuses the honorarium for her speaking engagements?
Sarah Palin is developing and marketing her brand. She is making a fortune and doing so on the backs of all her adoring fans who wait breathlessly for her next book...
Sarah Palin is a politician and as such, is self-serving. She's made a fortune being "a maverick" or "going rogue". Its easy to stir the pot and make a fortune at it when you don't have to be accountable for your actions. If she were in office, she would be accountable. She's not.
It seems to me that she wants to hang out on the sidelines sniping at Rick Perry as a crony capitalist, or "Herb" Cain as the "flavor of the month", or Bachman or Romney or the rest, doing her best to bloody their noses and then jump in late in the game to avoid scrutiny and avoid the rigors of the campaign. She refuses to stand toe to toe with the other candidates and risk embarrassing gaffes (that she likes to harp on re the other candidates) yet you feel that this is somehow brilliant? Its not brilliant, its cowardly. She's not taking the American people seriously; quite the contrary, she is showing her contempt for them and the process.
I think that Sarah Palin has started to believe all the fawning accolades of her supporters and has gotten quite full of herself. SHe doesn't want "handlers" telling her what to do; she does not want to be constrained by campaigning or actually doing what it takes to be president. She (and her supporters) seem to believe that she should just be allowed to walk in at the convention and be ordained as the candidate.
Sarah Palin is far from brilliant. I've heard her on tv; I've even attended speaches she's given. Somehow, I come away with the impression that she does not actually believe what she is saying. She seems to like playing provacatuer. She likes to stir the pot and get attention and her sycophant supporters all gather round in a happy little Sarah circle-jerk congratulating her for her brilliant insight; her wonderful comments... SHE SOUNDS LIKE AN UNEDUCATED BOOB WHEN SHE SPEAKS!!!! How can you poeple take her seriously?????
