(CNN) -- Tuesday's CNN.com story about transgender children and their families shed light on an emotional topic and provoked strong response.
"Transgender kids: Painful quest to be who they are" centered on identity, gender, health, parenting and child development. It's not unusual for a popular story on CNN.com to have hundreds or thousands of responses, but the overwhelmingly negative tone of Tuesday's comments raised the question about the root of the hostility. What exactly provoked such harsh opinions?

When did parents put the kids in charge? Too many parents want to be friends, don’t want the responsibility of being a parent or are self-centered.
Children need structure, discipline and love. When they don’t get these things they act out - and they continue this pattern for the rest of their lives.

The facts of the case. Reports of child abuse often garner harsh opinions; the better question would be why this story wouldn't receive disapproval.

There is an example of a prominent Marxist with a robot dog that would respond to certain commands. The marxist commented that the difference between the robot dog, a real dog, and a human was just a matter of degree. They all respond to stimulus according to their material makeup.
