Ron Paul, the Texas congressman who is seeking the GOP presidential nomination, on Friday criticized the Obama administrations action in killing Anwar Awlaki, the American-born cleric who advocated jihad against the United States.
Paul was the strongest critic on the Republican side in condemning the attack, which was praised by other candidates including Texas Gov. Rick Perry. Former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson, a libertarian like Paul, also questioned the tactic of killing a U.S. citizen without due process.

Jeez.
Go rent a blimp, fool!
They were self-declared enemies of the United States. I don’t care where their Mama had a baby.
Can we stop pretending he is a Republican now?
That’s why I will never vote for Ron Paul. He has a soft heart for terrorists and is too much of a RINO for me.
Hmmmm...the word "allegedly" is notably lacking in that sentence. I'd say he got due process, and in the bargain, his reward in heaven for being martyred. Thanks for playing, Anwar.
Come on Ronnie. Lighten up! Barry was still in the fart sack with Moochelle dreaming of the land of ice cream cones. The CIA and U.S. military operatives took these aholes out and made the world “a better place”.
It is amazing how this senile old fart can speak with both feet in his mouth.
It is amazing how this senile old fart can speak with both feet in his mouth.
Make up your mind. Does the CIA have the power or not? Yes but it's scary?
Moslims declared war on us and are still attacking us. He is a best friend of Moslims.
Yes the president and CIA has the power to do this to a citizen.
Who will be the next citizen zapped by an American president?
Do the Armed Forces have the power to shoot a traitor in the middle of combat?
Paul-Kucinich 2012!
Why settle for one little nut, when you could have two?
Cadbury used to make a nice choclate bar with fruit and nuts ... just sayin’.
citizen??? listen stooopid... he RENOUNCED his citizenship!!!
I have no problem with this killing. He is an avowed enemy of this country, and we are at war with his forces.
I notice that you and others use the word Moslims while most use Muslims. Which one is it?
Ron Paul needs to read the Constitution:
"Anchor Babies" are not citizens.
Ron Paul must be a terrorist, correct?
Sounds like the start of a joke...
“So, Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich walk into a black gay bar...”
Should we all be as pleased when DHS declares boomop1 an enemy?
Hooray! Boomop1 is dead!
al-Awlawki joined a foreign army (al Qaeda) that has formally declared war against the United States and has been conducting military operations against the United States for many years now. He was killed in an overseas military operation.
The fact that al Qaeda violates the Geneva Convention by not wearing uniforms and attacking civilians does not help al-Awlawki’s case, it makes it worse.
Ron Paul is a nut.
I sincerely doubt if this sack of $hit was really a citizen. Probably only born here, which doesn't automatically make someone a citizen.
Krauthammer just made an excellant point...
What about all the hundreds of thousands Americans that an American President ordered to be shot during the CIVIL WAR?
Screw them I will take a few with me LOL.
Well at least they had an argument that the Constitution allowed a state to secede and that they were acting lawfully under the Constitution by seceding.
Awlaki, on the other hand, is no different than an American citizen who joined the Nazi army or the Japanese Imperial Army.
I am not going to shed a tear for Al Awlaki, however, there is a point here. It sounds as though presidential actions have expanded well beyond what Congress actually authorized and if this is the case RP does have a very valid point. Perhaps more flexibility and extemporizing is required of a President dealing with daily issues, but since RP is not actually going to be President, reminding us that if we are philosophically consistent we will question some of this is altogether a good thing and a valuable service.
Far too many citizens are woefully ignorant of our laws and our history, and simply view life as just another reality show.
If the President can order the execution of anybody, we have lost our way.
Now this POS POTUS will have to murder somebody every week until the next election.
I’m with you. Sombitches wanna call you a terrorist, I’m in the trench with you.
Does it really matter if he was indeed a citizen? I could give a damn! I actually hope he was a citizen because our action shows that if you saddle up with the America-hating enemy we will grant you the opportunity to be treated as such. Penetrated by the tip of a drone...without the lube! God Bless America!
We’ve known for years that the CIA does stuff like that, but up to now they have at least had the decency to hide their work.
Due process for foreign terrorists, and drone attacks against U.S. citizens. That’s been the policy of the Obamunists. Politically inspired fishing for votes. I suppose those who condemn Ron Paul’s principled but utterly inconsequential comments will vote for the Kenyan stalinist now. I applaud crazy Ron Paul for the timely reminder.
You might have noticed that Obama doesn't lead the troops.
So let’s say we send a B-17 over Berlin and bomb Hitler’s bunker and in there with His Fuehrerness is an American citizen of German descent who joined the Nazi army.
Are you saying bombing the bunker is wrong because we would be killing an American citizen without due process?
Aw blow it out your ass! It's that type of thinking that got us into this shit. If Reagan had severely bombed Beirut after they killed over 200 Marines in cold blood we wouldn't be fighting this fight today. It's the President's job to order the execution of any and everybody who threatens our way of life. You and your appeasing leader Ron Paul would happily get us all killed. Do us all a favor, renounce your citizenship today. You don't deserve the protection OUR military affords you!
This means I have to side with Obama over a Republican? Heaven help us.
No, I’m saying that bringing up Hitler in an Internet discussion is a cheap trick!
Okay, okay, sorry bout that. Change it to Ho Chi Minh.
Let’s say we send a B-52 over Hanoi to bomb the crap out of Uncle Ho. In there in the command bunker is some Weatherman commie American citizen who joined up to support the Viet Cong.
Same question?
You have a point which I won’t dispute. You’re correct. (And we should have bombed Hanoi while Jane Fonda was there.) My original point however was an observation in the first sentence of the post. Do you disagree that this has been a politically inspired, contradictory policy of this administration?
Can’t argue with you on that!
It’s okay for Obama to assassinate terrorists, even U.S. citizens, as long as he doesn’t waterboard them.
Then you should be applauding on your way to the US border, you traitorious bastard! Mods, please remove this fool.
Better traitorous than illiterate and foolish, said once my great-grandfather, who had loyally served several U.S. Presidents, and fought in world wars.
So according to Paul’s logic a police officer should never pull his weapon when confronting an armed robber. Oops, alleged armed robber.
I guess he’s supposed to just convince him to stop robbing the store and how he, the officer, is protecting his rights to due process.
Or maybe he should apologize for coming into the store while the theif was holding a gun on the store owner. I guess if he shoots the store owner it will be because the theif was just ticked off the cop was actually in the store.
Yep, I'd add especially US citizens and their FReeper sympathizers/Ron Paul delegates. Did you traitors also support the Muslim who rolled a grenade into a US Army tent? Yeah, that bastard was an American too. Do you and your fellow Paulettes believe that coward bastard deserved a trial? Kill them ALL!
