I wasn’t aware slippers had anything to do with racial slurs.
Every day I find I’m much more ignorant than I ever thought I was.
Clearly you’ve never been to Selma before like Obama had.

When I heard that line, I was immediately reminded of Aretha Franklin, in her role in the movie..”The Blues Brothers”. She wore scuffs, a type of bedroom slipper, in her luncheonette. In the movie it was cute...but to an audience of black professionals, students and workers, it was demeaning. My jaw dropped when I heard it.
I’m with you....I think I’d half to bend over backwards twice over to think this was racist. Obama stinks (uh oh, racist??), but this is just silly.
Apparently, anything can be a racial slur. If you don’t know why it’s a slur - then you must be a racist. I guess.
Personally, I don’t make the connection. I guess I’m a racist, too.
In “black speak”, “slippers” means rubbers or condoms.
Look it up!
You must be really young. Of course it us a racist stereotype - remember James Watt, Reagan’s Secretary of the Interior who was hounded from office for saying blacks are fine as long as they have comfortable shoes and a warm place to take a crap.
Lying around all day collecting your welfare check and never bothering to get fully dressed, is the stereotype. Hard to believe you never heard that one.
