Republican voters in early presidential voting states like Iowa are increasingly looking past imperfections in a candidate's conservative record in exchange for someone who appeals to the broader electorate â and might have a better chance of beating President Barack Obama.
It's a potentially beneficial development for Texas Gov. Rick Perry and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who lead in national polls despite records that break with conservative orthodoxy in some areas.
At least in Iowa and New Hampshire, some Republicans are shifting toward Romney and Perry â at the others' expense.
"If we keep focusing on immigration and gay marriage, we're going to lose," said Kathy Potts, an Iowa Republican who had been a key volunteer for Santorum until switching to Perry in September. "He may not be perfect. But he can win. That's the most important thing."
In New Hampshire, Scott Hilliard was leaning toward supporting former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, who has claimed he's the most electable but is struggling in polls. But now Hilliard says the times are tailored for Romney, a former CEO with decades of business experience.

But Perry can beat Obama, that's why they try to knock him out in the primary, using conservatives against him, who are obliginly doing the Dems jobs for them, attacking the only conservative who can win.
Perry ping
Funny, this is what the MSM told us about Reagan. I’m sure they have the conservatives’ best interests at heart, right?
Romney, a democrat liberal in disguise. Perry, a rino. These both are the type that the liberals would vote for.
The message Herman Cain shares is one that resonates with everyone who hears it. He’s the only one against whom Obama polls under 40%. He drags Obama down and as his message gets out, his numbers will go up.
It’s time to start believing. Herman can win.
Electability is a MSM-created myth. Cain can easily beat Obama, but the MSM labels hims as “nonviable” since he hasn’t been to the Birkenstockers meetings and doesn’t have a lot of cash (although he has mine). I don’t mind if Perry wins, but the problem is that Perry is currently Mitt’s opponent and if Mitt can take him down (with much help from the MSM), then we have Mitt and then Mitt loses to Obama.
“If we keep focusing on immigration and gay marriage, we’re going to lose,”
And what the hell does this twit thinks contributes to the loss of jobs to Americans, higher medical and social service benefits and the loss of jobs overseas?
Businesses are tired of government mandates. And government mandates include hiring practices designed to give special benefits to certain groups, require highering of gay and transsexuals, etc.
Additionally, illegals often take jobs from Americans, are medicated and cared for at hospitals at the expense of insured patients and the public at large and don’t pay into the social support network.
The fact she was working for Santorum shows she’s an idiot.
IF you'd rather NOT be pinged FReepmail me.
IF you'd like to be added FReepmail me. Thanks.

81 percent of the jobs created since 2007 in Texas have gone to immigrants who arrived here since 2007. Ninety-three percent of these immigrants arent citizens and an estimated 50 percent are illegal aliens while the percentage of Americans in Texas holding jobs fell from 71 percent in 2007 to 67 percent in 2011.

And the TOTUS can? Since when?
Unless they are going to allow teleprompters at the debates, I don’t see the TOTUS having any advantage over Perry.
You’re posting a red herring here.
And then the moderator asks Obama the same question... and the TOTUS stutters, stammers, and says ‘you know’ for 60 seconds.
Then on to next question.
Again, no benefit for the TOTUS. After, perhaps, two debates with no winners, they’ll stop and go back to town halls and speeches. In those, Perry does quite well.
How many Dems trash Romney compared to those that (with help from Freepers) trash Perry? Lumping them into the same bundle is a fatal mistake if we expect to take the WH.
I for one would like to see an end to Iowa and New Hampshire’s reign of terror. They’ve picked RINO’s long enough. It’s time for a southern and western state to have a shot at early voting.
And in its infinite wisdom (not) our Wisconsin GOP recently changed the date of our primary from February (too late) to April (what's the point?). I really resent not having a voice in this matter when I see milquetoast RINOs raised up every 4 years.
