He said he vetoed a Texas bill that would have given illegal immigrants driver's licenses, helped pass a bill requiring voter identification at the polls, spent $400 million on security measures to help secure the state’s border with Mexico, and strongly opposed granting amnesty to people who illegally entered the United States.
"I'm a governor. I don't have the pleasure of standing on the stage and criticizing," Perry said. "I have to deal with these issues."

Folks have shown countless examples of how to greatly reduce, if not virtually eliminate, illegal immigration.
Still, there are always those people who keep acting like nothing will work.
Or, they say a fence won’t work...when noone says just a fence. Its a combination of things.
If Perry’s argument is the Federal government is responsible for illegals in Texas. Does that mean if he became President he would stop illegal immagration?
Doesn’t sound like it because would make him heartless?
Perry is a good conservative who deserves his fair share of criticism for a less then ideal immigration record, but the constant assaults from know-nothing yahoos like you don't hurt the Governor. They just make you look stupid.

A lot of people have a very visceral anti-Perry feeling. They seem to enjoy attacking him, like it gives them emotional satisfaction.
With Cain, I have to think he doesn’t feel so anti Perry in his gut, but that he endorsed Romney in the past tells me he would easily endorse Romney now...that is, if he himself does not get the nomination.
So, I think with Cain it’s a political calculation more than it is viscerally anti Perry.
And that’s a huge problem for me.
Mr Cain needs to hear from the other side, from those who would vote for any of several candidates including Perry.

At first I was open to Perry until I started hearing him talk. Now I’m convinced more than ever he’ll be just another George Bush on this issue, something we can no longer afford.

If Santorum is the nominee I know I would vote for him and pray that he wins. Cain I'm pretty close to putting in my Romney camp. We will find out who the nominee is and hopefully it will be someone who can win and win BIG.
One thought on the immigration issue. I'm Pro-Life and that is my line that I will not cross. However, I have to work within the political constraints of our country and where the voting blocks are. IOW, I can't get an absolute ban on abortion, but if I can get waiting periods, ultrasounds, restrictions on clinics, parental notification, and licensing requirements I will support candidates that are for them even if they don't support everything I want.
I am never going to convince some that Perry did the right thing on the education issue, but if you see that he's supporting most of what you want he's a heck of a lot better than someone who says he will but has no history of doing anything. In the end we need obama out, Pubs controlling both houses and as Conservative a POTUS as we can get.
The same can be said for you. You can't even grasp the simple concept that when you encourage illegal behavior you get more of it. The last 40 yeas of politicians turning a blind eye to illegals should have taught you that anything other than zero tolerance for illegal aliens is capitulation to the pro amnesty marxists.

Cain endorsed Mitt Romney in the last Presidential election. I’m not saying Cain is as bad as Romney on Romney’s bad issues, I’m saying it is bad that Cain ever endorsed Romney and would do so again. And would vote for him, but would not vote for Perry even against Obama, so Cain says.
Sarah isn’t yet running. Many vow she will, others vow she won’t. I don’t know.
She isn’t being attacked from every direction in a debate, unlike Perry. Some Sarah supporters say that’s just brilliant of her. Looks kinda unfair, just sayin’... Perry loses your possible supportl but you’re open, I guess, to someone who stayed away from that spotlight’s glare and those attacks from everywhere, left and right...
We know you’re not for Obama, but if you don’t support somebody against Obama you’ve deleted yourself from the fight against him.

How bad can Perry be? If I'm just reading FR you would think he's just like obama.
If I were president, I would ENFORCE the current laws. The problem that we have in America is that ever since Reagan granted Amnesty, the Presidents who followed him have refused to enforce the immigration laws.
For instance, an employer who knowingly hires an illegal alien is subject to fines of up to $10,000 per day. Has that provision EVER been enforced? Show me one example.
Is it any wonder why people from all over the world come here illegally?

Very similar arguments were made about Bush and the damage done from his open borders policy dwarfs any of his good, including the excellent Supreme Court picks.
States all along the Southwest and beyond are finding bankrupt budgets from paying out on all the illegal alien criminals. When they try to do something judges and weasels like Obama fight them every step of the way. That's what compassionate conservatism gets you. I'm convinced Perry would be more of the same.
And you're right I want Obama out and if Perry wins the primaries then there isn't much choice. Once again we will have to hold Congress's feet to the fire not to give him amnesty since like Bush I'm convinced he'll push for it in the name of a guest worker program.
