the labor unions and technology have destroyed the post office.
it should be privatized and de-unionized.

And a horse and buggy never caused as many traffic fatalities as the automobile.

I would suggest three simple tactics for the post office. First, deliver the mail two days a week...rotate it for different neighborhoods. We don’t need daily mail delivery anymore. Second, at best we need about half the number of post offices that exist today. So start closing them left and right. Third and final...for the month of December, I’d enact a 20-cent additional fee on every package mailed because of the Christmas traffic. It starts on 1 December and ends the day after Christmas.

Get rid of the post office. And the U.S. mint. Financial institutions. Your paychecks are sent auto-e-matically to a redistribution center for bill payment and just scan the barcode microchip embedded in your hand to make purchases. You have more important things to do.

I was going to post that the constitution requires the federal government to provide postal services. Actually, it does not. Close it. Or at the very least zero out its advertizing budget.

Wow. That is absolutely dismaying.
Be a Luddite! Buy a stamp.
As a matter of fact, I guess we should all buy a stamp and send our next handwritten posts to Jim Robinson.

Step 4, eliminate all junk mail. No one reads it and think of all the trees we would be saving. With the advent of on-line bill paying and e-mail, the Post Office as it was envisioned by the founding fathers is an anachronism. And expensive anachronism.

Step 4, eliminate all junk mail. There's are reason I walk past the trash can on the way back into the house...after getting the mail from the mailbox.

The post office is self-sustaining. They have to advertise. Otherwise the millions of non-english speaking people in this country would never know of it’s existence. At least, that they could use it to send stuff and not just receive.

Bingo! It authorizes Congress to create a Post Office, but does not require it.

I personally haven't seen the new post office ad yet, but I did find a picture of it on the web, and I thought the throw-back colors were a nice touch:

“The post office is self-sustaining.”
Self-sustaining what? Perpetual money losing machine?
How do you think the USPS funds its deficits every year?
