Top Gear Executive Producer: “Our primary reasoning behind the verdict had nothing to do with how the Tesla performed”

He may have been better remaining quiet. He essentially admits that many of their statements were not based on testing, but on calculations and their opinion that nobody would want a car that needed to be recharged after a couple hundred miles.

For me, if I had money just sitting around, I’d already own one of these cars. For most of my driving, 200 miles a day would be more than enough. I’d still need my Prius for our long-haul vacations. But my average day is about 20 miles of driving, maybe 40 if I have to run errands, and even a lot of my weekend outings are under 200 miles total.

so there opinion is based upon their opinion ... what's wrong with that?

Watch the entire video of the test and you will see that their statement/opinion was accurate

The guy in the video, at the drag strip, said he can charge his batteries in 15-20 minutes. How does he do that?

Swap out? Not sure how complex that is? I suppose it could be made easy by a motivated manufacturer.

Is this the one Gore has an interest in? (And us as well, with our tax dollars?)

Tesla Motors is a publicly traded company these days.

Depending on your mutual funds, you might have an interest in it as well.

We are big fans of Top Gear, and have watched all of the shows starting with season 5. I thought the show was fine; it was his response to the lawsuit I thought was unhelpful to his cause.

> I think the ultimate solution to our energy problems isn’t any one solution. It will be a variety.

I agree, and that’s why I get P.O.ed when our side automatically ditches an idea like solar or electric cars because Zer0 is for it.

Alternative energy is worth exploring... but not to the exclusion of hydrocarbons. Electric cars have their place... but will not REplace gas-powered, at least for now.

I know, now I’ve P.O.ed everybody else! :-)

“I know, now I’ve P.O.ed everybody else! :-)”

Only the reactionaries.

If EVERYONE wants or needs something, then it’s quite likely that that item will be scarce and expensive.

If some of us have a natural gas powered car, some have electrics, some have gasoline, diesel, and even hydrogen fuel cells... it’s good for ALL of us.

It opens up more niche businesses, and gives the consumer more choices. I love my gasoline powered car, but I’d go electric if it were sensible to do so.

I drive roughly 40 miles 1 way. There is no way a electric car would help me at all..

I would buy one and then I would install a speaker system that would duplicate in decibels the engine sounds of a Lamborghini or a Ferrari.
