Herman Cain Flip-Flopped on the Killing of Anwar al-Awlaki
The Atlantic ^ | 10-03-2011 | Chris Good

Posted on 10/03/2011 3:25:20 PM PDT by PerryBachmann2012

In early May, GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain said it would be illegal for the Obama administration to assassinate Anwar al-Awlaki, a U.S. citizen and suspected Yemeni terrorist known to be included on a "kill list" maintained by U.S. military and intelligence branches.

"In his case, no, because he's an American citizen," Cain said after a nationally televised presidential debate on May 5, when asked specifically about the Obama administration's targeting of al-Awlaki. "If he's an American citizen, which is the big difference, then he should be charged, and he should be arrested and brought to justice."

Several weeks later, in an interview with The Atlantic's Conor Friedersdorf, Cain said he hadn't heard of al-Awlaki or the administration's goal of killing a U.S. citizen. But Cain repeated that he opposed the idea: "I don't believe that the president of the United States should order the assassination of citizens of the United States. That's why we have our court system, and that's why we have our laws."

Yet after U.S. forces killed al-Awlaki on Friday in a joint drone and jet strike, Cain reportedly praised the assassination. Hot Air's Ed Morrissey reported on a panel discussion at a tea-party convention in Chicago on Sunday, where Cain appeared:

In a brief Q&A with our panel after his speech, Cain told the crowd that he fully supported Barack Obama's decision to strike Anwar al-Awlaki.

Perry/Bachmann, eh? Interesting. The old Giuliani bandwagon won’t like it, but that’s irrelevant.

Excuse me. I was referring to NautiNurse claim somehow Perry claimed all REPUBS are heartless.

did you notice the space between that and my discusion of EDU?
But since you asked:
For Rep Ron Paul (R-TX), education and medical care are not rights but rather “things that you have to earn.”

The Dumocrats during Reconstruction didn’t want public edu either.

When there is a negative thread about a GOP candidate posted by a noob named PerryWhoever2012, it surely seems that Perry is fair game. Are you on Perry’s campaign payroll, or just a volunteer?

I agree that Cain is done

You can agree on that all you want, but that only mean that the two of you are ignoring reality. Cain's popularity is surging. His growing popularity couldn't come at a better time as far as fund raising is concerned. Watch Hannity tonight.

Anwar al-Awlaki was an American citizen and never renouced his citizenship. In order to lose his citizenship, it must be shown that the U.S. citizen joined the foreign military or swore allegiance to another state “with the intention of relinquishing United States nationality”. There’s no evidence that Awlaki ever formally renounced his U.S. citizenship.

That being said I’m glad he’s dead...

Have you seen the old video of Herman Cain pointing out the bad math and other errors of HillaryCare with Bubba Clinton? It’s a Clinton town hall meeting. Classic.

His inexperience was showing. We don’t need another inexperienced person as president.

Myself I prefer Pizza Hut, but I wouldn’t vote for my pizza guy for president, neither should you.

You think Working to enable Murderers to fly plans into buildings killing thousands is showing ALLEGIANCE to the United States? REALLY?

The only Real difference that I can find btw McVeigh and Al Awlaki is that McVeigh killed more people. So what gave Obama the right to assassinate an American again?

The post was based on your argument: You think getting returning to the U.S to study on SCHOLARSHIPS that were FORBIDDEN to AMERICAN CITIZENS means he renouced his citezenship?

What scholarships are FORBIDDEN to Americans?

You think Working to enable Murderers to fly plans into buildings killing thousands is showing ALLEGIANCE to the United States? REALLY?

Naw.. I never said that you did. I said I’m glad the guys dead and he never renouced his citizenship.

I could say the same thing about Obama when it comes to his ALLEGIANCE to the United States with what that ass is doing?

There are a lot of things about Awlaki that almost no one knows ~ or cares about.

The Fifth Amendment itself clearly gives an exception to the CIC to direct the killing of enemy ~ even if they are citizens.

The 5th Amendment gave the CIC the right to kill enemy.

I haven’t heard has he made it clear he will REPEAL OBAMACARE.

There are none so blind as those who will not see.

On Cain's website, cleverly named HermanCain.com, buried in a secret tab labeled "Health Care" in BIG letters under the ingenious guise of "Issues":

Repeal and Replace Health Care “Deform”

President Obama and the liberals in Congress have dismantled the free market health care system and replaced it with health care “deform.” They have passed measures that compromise the sacred patient-doctor relationship, eliminate patient choice, stick a bureaucrat in the examining room, ration care and do nothing to limit frivolous lawsuits that drive up the cost of health care. In all of these provisions, they made health care more expensive and less accessible for American families they claimed to protect.

Under the guise of making health care a “right” for all people, President Obama and the liberals in Congress instead extended the tentacles of government, expanding their control and diminishing patients’ rights. They have also made it more difficult and more expensive for doctors to practice medicine, including specialized practitioners who are desperately needed to save lives. In reality, their attempts at reforming the system have actually deformed it.

The majority of Americans agree: it’s time to repeal and replace Obamacare with patient-centered, free market reforms. It’s time to institute legitimate tort reforms that let doctors practice medicine without fear of frivolous lawsuits. Loser pay laws would be a great start! That is, require those who lose frivolous lawsuits to pay the legal expenses of those found not guilty. Additionally, loosening the restrictions on Health Savings Accounts would help to empower Americans to save and invest their own money to expand their options for health care.

Let’s level the playing field under the current tax code and allow the deductibility of health insurance premiums regardless of whether they are purchased by the employer or the employee. That would help shift ownership of one’s health care back to where it belongs, the individual. Patient-centered free market health care reforms have already been developed and introduced in Congress, but they are stuck in committee and they can’t get out. With the right leadership we can get them out and get them passed.

Cain's popularity is surging.

Yeah, it is temporarily. Just like it was for Cain back in May. And then Trump. And then Bachmann. And then Perry. Then back to Cain. Then it will be Christie next. Because conservatives apparently get led around by the media to a new 'flavor of the week'.

as far as fund raising is concerned

Yep. Cain raised one whole million in ten days in the final ten days of September. That's 1/10th of what Romney raised in 24 hours once this year. Ron Paul has had three or four different days in 2011 where he raised over a million in 24 hours. A million in ten days...what a surge!
