Funny - I was just thinking yesterday about that book “Steal This Book” - by Abbie Hoffman IIRC? I had in fact stolen it. I think it was fairly old by the time I got to it - I suppose I was 13 or so (1973).
I recall flipping through the pages on how to “give it to the man” - making free telephone calls is about all I remember now. I think we did try some of those! But I recall being too chicken to try any of the other ones.
I do like your take on deciding which rules to follow, and making up your own mind. I know as parents we tried to give our kids rules for safety. But even then, if my boy wanted to try to walk across a slippery log over a bog I would let him do it. He learned real quick when he got soaking wet! (Did NOT let him try it over the creek!).

I suppose if I were to write a book, without filters and think of some vile deeds and explore possible destructive lifestyles, the left would embrace the book and promote it to children. Oh wait, that’s been done already..
Are you talking about “Steal this Book”? As I said, I don’t recall much of it - but I imagine that there are other books that are worse. That would be an interesting thread - “Most harmful books to Western culture.” Hmmm - maybe you were thinking of the Koran?
Although that Benjamin Spock’s book on how to raise (spoil?) a baby might rank up there as well!?
