Sarah Palin-affiliated law firm made early-state deadline inquiries
Politico ^ | 10/04/2011 | Maggie Haberman

Ken Vogel and I both have sources telling us that calls were made on behalf of a mystery candidate to various early states to determine presidential filing deadlines. Continue Reading

The calls were made by representatives of the law firm Baker Hostetler - a firm that employs lawyer Mark Braden, who represents Sarah PAC, her political action committee.

As Ken notes, while he nor representatives of Palin’s campaign would comment on the calls, Palin is the only GOP politician eying the presidential race who is represented by the firm.

It wouldn’t be the first time that her representatives have sought information on the deadlines marking the ever-shifting GOP calendar.

The current thinking in GOP election law circles is that the first hard cut-off for entering the race is Oct. 28, when presidential candidates who hope to appear on the ballot in the New Hampshire primary would be required to submit a filing fee from a federally registered presidential campaign committee.

-- If she chose option #2, it probably wouldn't take more than a few days prior to the filing deadline to make sure everything went through okay prior to the deadline. --

I think she can safely file on the last day, from a "formality" standpoint. The requirements are simple and straightforward.

Not true. Here in Illinois there is ongoing uncertainty due to the Republicans changing their timing, making it later to line up with the dem schedule. Things are so chaotic the Illinois State Board of Elections had trouble giving me a straight answer. And the website is not accurate, because proper channels haven’t informed them what to do yet. So if I’m Palin’s attorney, I’m checking this in all the early states, then checking again. They can’t afford to get this wrong.

Why would they turn down an October 30th submission by anyone when the deadline is October 31st?

But, but, but we know she’s not running - numerous FR posters tell us so. It must be someone else...

I have pointed out multiple times that there is a difference between a "serious" run (Hillary invested $11 million of her own money and still ended up $9 million in debt) and "phony" runs, such as Newt is running now (No staff. No ads. No expenses) that are designed to generate TV face time.

At this point, this inquiry does not equate to either a "serious" run or to a "phony" run. It only equates with a continuing tease at the possibility of a "serious" run or a "phony" run.

The bottom line is that, although Brett Favre once won a Super Bowl on the playing field, Brett Favre never won a Super Bowl by teasing from his front porch in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

OH, Onyx; you have have to give the poor man a break.

After all, he lives in the Peoples Republic of Oregon. I understand how debilitating it is, as I escaped twelve years ago.

Ordinarily, I would agree. But Sarah Palin has an extensive underground matrix of supporter and bundlers out there - waiting for the signal to launch operations.

So is she serious? I say yes, as she has gone after Random House Publishing with a vengence. Stomping out the nauseating gossip NOW would not be important unless she was going to run for President.

Oh yeah, it’s all part of her “big tease”—to have her attorneys call the various state offices about this. (eye roll)

Didn't her movie just come out on DVD today? What better way to drum up sales than float a rumor or a rumor that someone heard...(double eye roll)

A serious candidate wouldn’t call his base heartless for wanting to defend American soil from invading criminals.

So, Perry, in a "30 Second Sound Bite Contest" inarticulately defended a complicated Texas position that 98% of the entire Legislature of the very conservative State of Texas supported.

Your tender little feelings and your Inner Child were SO traumatized that you destroyed Perry and propelled Mitt Romney to the top of the GOP race while you wait and wait and wait for Sarah.

Mitt Romney played you like a fiddle.

They wouldn't. The bias runs in favor of admitting the candidate in spite of formal errors (e.g., misspell address; wrong date on form), and NH is notorious for admitting "vanity" candidates.

But, a fair number of posters here have the impression that a person intending to run has to "get organized" weeks in advance, or else won't appear on a presidential preference primary ballot. IL does have a requirement for 3,000 to 5,000 signatures (I'm not sure that this pertains to candidates running under GOP or DEM banners), but the filing date is well after the filing dates for the four early primary states, or FL.

Tell that to the not one, but two opponents Obama got kicked off the ballot because of inconsequential factual errors.

The bias it toward the letter of the law. Depending on the judge it comes up before, it could be kicked out because she forgot to dot the i in Palin, making the judge think she signed it Sara Pallen.

Oh Carling! You are aware of course that top notch ‘Universities’, teaching Political science, are watching her campaign very closely.....Palin is seen as changing the entire way compaigns operate.....furthermore ‘Legal Firms’ are as attentive as all get out. Not to mention international groups and the like....nothing close to your comparison...some people are just fools for Hollywood...is that where you stand?

And the back tracking begins.....lol

I have been talking about Palin running a Newt-style "phony campaign" for quite a while now, CSI007.

Here is one of my posts from last August.

Palin will play her teasing game as long as she possibly can get away with it, maybe to the point of actually declaring and running a phony campaign, without any paid staff (as Newt Gingrich is doing right now) ...... 5 posted on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 8:29:15 PM by Polybius
