Sarah Palin-affiliated law firm made early-state deadline inquiries
Politico ^ | 10/04/2011 | Maggie Haberman

Ken Vogel and I both have sources telling us that calls were made on behalf of a mystery candidate to various early states to determine presidential filing deadlines. Continue Reading

The calls were made by representatives of the law firm Baker Hostetler - a firm that employs lawyer Mark Braden, who represents Sarah PAC, her political action committee.

As Ken notes, while he nor representatives of Palin’s campaign would comment on the calls, Palin is the only GOP politician eying the presidential race who is represented by the firm.

It wouldn’t be the first time that her representatives have sought information on the deadlines marking the ever-shifting GOP calendar.

The current thinking in GOP election law circles is that the first hard cut-off for entering the race is Oct. 28, when presidential candidates who hope to appear on the ballot in the New Hampshire primary would be required to submit a filing fee from a federally registered presidential campaign committee.

You meant your anonymous ad hominen attack on me.

Now that’s courage. Sarah Palin has you diehards so confused about her motives that you’re lashing about at people who share your ideology. When she doesn’t run, it won’t be pretty here.

I was in Hawaii for five days. Since there wasn’t a tsunami, I’ll assume that Palin is still sitting on the sidelines?

True Dat!! LOL

Does Governor Palin have a federally registered presidential campaign committee with which to meet this requirement? I'm thinking no, and that SarahPAC doesn't meet that requirement. If not, how long does it take to file the paperwork for that registration, allowing a bit of leeway for delays, errors, and officially obtaining that status?

If Politico wants to play Sherlock Holmes based on unnamed sources, it would seem like a more productive use of their time to keep an eye on wherever one would find information about someone registering a presidential campaign.

Like the fact that all your candidates will be tossed aside like a used Napkin once Sarah gets in. We all know you secretly can't wait for Sarah to Announce, YOU WANT IT NOW!!!!

So, you don't think Sarah has a lawyer to advise her on these issues?? It seems that her lawyers in Alaska beat ALL the ethics complaints. Her lawyers negotiated 2 best sellers and a major TV series. They have just filed notice of potential suit against Harper Collins.

I'm guessing that she actually has a very competent election lawyer on the job as I type this.

-- I'm pretty sure Florida's is still October 31st. --

The filing in FL is submission, by the state party, of a list of names. Do you think the state party would turn down an Oct 30 request from Palin, to add her name to the list?

At least for a change on this thread, I am giving useful advice. My years as a father and grandfather there is a small but finite chance that good advice will be taken.

I mean that it doesn't matter whatever anyone but Sarah and her advisers think or do. Que sera sera.

Who cares what Politico thinks. They are not relevant to Sarah and her current decision. I only point out that she is infinitely better prepared for this stuff than they are.

I think I see. Your reply wasn’t responsive to my post, and you didn’t intend it to be? Just kind of a general comment? Okay then, I misunderstood.

Except that Paris was never the Governor of the largest state in America who had the highest approval ratings of any Governor in history; Paris was not elected twice as Mayor of her small town; Paris was never the Chair of an extremely important state gas and oil commission; Paris did not go up against the chairman of her own party on Ethics concerns and win. Paris did not completely re-structure how Alaskans’ get paid for Oil Revenue; Paris didn’t go up againt big oil and get them to stop sitting on 30 year old leases and start drilling. Other than that, your snarky PDS-inspired comparison — well, it still falls flat.

I think the info at this link answers your questions. The process doesn't appear too complicated. Just file a couple forms. http://www.fec.gov/ans/answers_candidate.shtml

The only thing required to get ballot access in NH is to file a simple declaration of constitutional qualification, and pay the filing fee. The filing fee is $1,000.

I'm referring to a NH government instruction sheet (link there to NH Sec of State website, short PDF), last updated January 2011.
