Just a few weeks after the implementation of the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," a majority of Americans say they support gays and lesbians serving openly in the military, according to a new CBS News poll.
According to the poll, 68 percent of Americans said they support gay and lesbians' rights to serve openly. Fifty percent said they "strongly" favored the idea.
Moreover, although many national Republicans leaders were against the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," more Republicans surveyed favor the idea of allowing gays and lesbians to serve in the armed forces openly than oppose it.
The poll shows that 48 percent of Republicans overall think gays and lesbians should be able to serve openly; 28 percent of those people said they favored the idea strongly.
Meanwhile, 41 percent of all Republicans opposed allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly- twelve percent of whom opposed the idea strongly, and 29 percent of whom opposed it only somewhat.
The numbers reflect little change in public sentiment since Congress repealed "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" in December 2010. Then, 50 percent of Republicans supported allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly, as did 69 percent of Americans overall, according to a CBS News poll.
Repeal of the 1993 law, which said gays could serve only if they kept their sexual orientations private, became official on September 20, 2011.
Have at it. There will be more like this, it's habitual.
Unless it's not really true.
Unless it’s not really true? Hmmm...
Get them young. Just like the Hitler Youth.
The value of a Liberal education wins the day.
We will see the real poll numbers after a couple of years and the truth starts to come out from service members.
What I find interesting is that, before DADT, it was illegal to serve openly as someone who engages in homosexual acts, so, when it was repealed, why didn't the policy revert back to what it was before it was enacted? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wait until we see what happens to the rate of homosexual rapes in the military.
Do they go to Gay Bars to do these polls?
This is a crock of crap.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the lawsuits haven’t already started. Some delicate recruit gets his panties in a twist because the mean ol’ Drill Sergeant called him a pansy or some such thing and next thing you know he’s a millionaire.
They kept that from the public. They also kept from the public why homos are unfit to serve. The reasons are still valid. All the other countries that allowed it have had major issues in the ranks.
Mike
Most of the people that have never served in the military think...NOT. Most of the people that have never earned a milllion dollars think...again NOT.
Homo rapes are really high now compared to the number of freaks supposedly in. The media only concentrates on men raping women.
Not that surprising. Most Americans have undergone PC brainwashing and few have actually served in the military. I’m sure the surveyed the “Occupy Wall Street” crowd pretty heavily too.
The polls and surveys don’t mean squat unless they come directly from the people who are currently serving, on active duty, or in the reserves. They are the ones who should have the final say in the matter.
No chit. They compare it to working 9-5 and going home and not seeing that person agin until the next morning. If that was the case no problemo.
I asked one woman on a blog if she takes showers with her co-workers. Crickets...
I also asked her if she would have an issue with undressing in her office in front of everybody. Crickets.....
“Some delicate recruit gets his panties in a twist because...”
Or
Some recruit gets raped by her butch drill instructor, butch CO, butch platoon sergeant, etc...
It works both ways.
